Abstract

A retractable storage system for handheld electronic device comprises a removable panel with one or more storage chambers for storing an accessory item, such as a wireless earbud, cabled earbud, headphone cable or e-cigarette, and a retractable mechanism to retrieve and dispense the stored accessory item through an accessory station. The removable panel can be replaced with another removable panel configured with different structure to store different accessory item, such as a battery to charge a wireless earbud or e-cigarette.

Claims (46)

1. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member operative shaped and sized to bound the handheld electronic device and enable wrapping around the handheld electronic device;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece;

an accessory station structured on the housing member and having an aperture for arresting, dispensing and storing the end piece of the cable;

one or more storage chambers structured on the housing member;

at least one retractable mechanism operably mounted inside one of the storage chambers for automatically retracting and removably storing the cable within a spring-biased spool for storage;

a plug head actuation system for operably removing and connecting the plug head of the cable to the audio jack of the handheld device;

wherein the end piece is removably secured in the accessory station and is withdrawn from the accessory station with the cable extending from the storage chamber through the aperture when in use; and

wherein said at least one retractable mechanism comprises a friction based braking system which comprises at least one damping pad to reduce the rotational speed of the spring-biased spool during the retraction of the cable.

2. The retractable storage system of claim 1 , further comprising a retraction button to control said at least one retractable mechanism to retract the cable.

3. The retractable storage system of claim 2 , wherein said retraction button is a spring loaded such that the retraction button remains in or returns to a first position unless the retraction button is moved and held at a second position to retract the cable to the storage chamber.

4. The retractable storage system of claim 1 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense the end piece from the accessory station.

5. The retractable storage system of claim 4 , wherein the accessory button is spring loaded such that the accessory button remains in or returns to a first position unless the accessory button is moved and held at a second position to dispense the end piece from the accessory station.

6. The retractable storage system of claim 1 , wherein the accessory station comprises a station adapter configured with elastic material to adjust the size of the aperture.

7. The retractable storage system of claim 1 , wherein the end piece is at least one earbud or earphone.

8. The retractable storage system of claim 7 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense said at least one earbud or earphone from the accessory station.

9. The retractable storage system of claim 1 , wherein the end piece is at least one headphone plug.

10. The retractable storage system of claim 9 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense the headphone plug from the accessory station.

11. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member operative shaped and sized to bound the handheld electronic device and enable wrapping around the handheld electronic device;

an accessory station structured on the housing member and having an aperture for arresting and dispensing and storing at least one accessory item of the handheld electronic device;

one or more storage chambers structured on the housing member for storing the accessory item; and

at least one battery mounted inside one of said storage chamber for charging at least one of the accessory items or the handheld electronic device; and

wherein the accessory station is a charging station which is electrically connected to said at least one battery to charge the accessory item stored within the charging station.

12. The retractable storage system of claim 11 , wherein the accessory item is at least one wireless earbud or e-cigarette.

13. The retractable storage system of claim 12 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense said at least one earbud or e-cigarette from the charging station.

14. The retractable storage system of claim 11 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense said accessory item from the charging station.

15. A retractable storage system for handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member operative shaped and sized to bound the handheld electronic device and enable wrapping around the handheld electronic device;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece;

a middle panel mounted within the housing member;

an accessory station structured on the middle panel at d having an aperture for storing, arresting and dispensing the end piece of the cable from the housing member;

one or more storage chambers structured on the middle panel;

at least one retractable mechanism operably mounted inside one of the storage chambers for automatically retracting and removably storing the cable within a spring-biased spool for storage;

a plug head actuation system for operably removing and connecting the plug head of the cable to the audio jack of the handheld device;

wherein the end piece is removably secured in the accessory station and is withdrawn from the accessory station with the cable extending from the storage chamber through the aperture when in use; and

wherein said at least one retractable mechanism comprises a friction based braking system which comprises at least one damping pad to reduce the rotational speed of the spring-biased spool during the retraction of the cable.

16. The retractable storage system of claim 15 , further comprising a retraction button to control said at least one retractable mechanism to retract the cable.

17. The retractable storage system of claim 16 , wherein said retraction button is a spring loaded such that the retraction button remains in or returns to a first position unless the retraction button is moved and held at a second position to retract the cable to the storage chamber.

18. The retractable storage system of claim 15 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense the end piece from the accessory station.

19. The retractable storage system of claim 18 , wherein the accessory button is a spring loaded such that the accessory button remains in or returns to a first position unless the accessory button is moved and held at a second position to dispense the end piece from the accessory station.

20. The retractable storage system of claim 15 , wherein the accessory station comprises a station adapter configured with elastic material to adjust the size of the aperture.

21. The retractable storage system of claim 15 , wherein the end piece is at least one earbud or earphone.

22. The retractable storage system of claim 21 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense said at least one earbud or earphone from the accessory station.

23. The retractable storage system of claim 15 , wherein the end piece at least one headphone plug.

24. The retractable storage system of claim 23 , further comprising an accessory button to dispense said at least one headphone plug from the accessory station.
