Abstract

Computer implemented methods and systems operating on real-time data derived from a plurality of data sources for supporting user-definable rules and providing user notifications for providing user notifications and smart alarms. A user-interface configured to dynamically display a parameter and toggle between a tabular display and a graphical display is generated. At least one of a user-defined rule or a threshold value associated with the parameter from a user-interface element is received. A notification is provided to a user when the parameter satisfies the user-defined rule or exceeds the threshold value.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the respective customizable rule user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients comprises a plurality of customizable user-defined rules, wherein each of the plurality of customizable user-defined rules comprises an assigned numeric value; and

the at least one processor is further configured to compare the numeric values of each of the plurality of customizable user-defined rules to determine which notification is sent to the user.

9. A method for providing user notifications and smart alarms in an integrated patient monitoring system, comprising:

dynamically displaying a user-interface in response to receiving data associated with different patients from a plurality of heterogeneous data sources;

receiving a customizable user-defined rule for each patient of the plurality of patients or a group of patients of the plurality of patients, the customizable user-defined rule for each patient or the group of patients being associated with at least one of the plurality of heterogeneous data sources, wherein the dynamically displaying the user-interface comprising displaying a status of each of the different patients based on the received data and respective customizable user-defined rules for each patient or the group of patients; and

providing, by a computing device, at least one respective notification to a user based on one or more conditions or calculations specified by the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with two or more patients of the plurality of patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients when the received data satisfies the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising prioritizing a first customizable user-defined rule associated with the a patient of the plurality of patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients based on numerical values assigned to the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising receiving user comments via a user-interface element when the user is sent the respective notification.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective notification comprises a plurality of notifications, the plurality of notifications being color coded based on the respective customizable user-defined rule associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rules associated with the group of patients to indicate varying levels of alerts.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients is written using a scripting language, and includes mathematical relations and conditional expressions.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients is tailored to a specific department.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective customizable user-defined rules associated with the two or more patients or the customizable user-defined rule associated with the group of patients describes at least one of a user or a group of users to receive the notification.

16. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing software comprising instructions executable by one or more computers which, upon execution, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
