Abstract

A method and system for a seller auction dashboard and reserve price lowering are described. The system generates a dashboard presentation that displays real-time information about each of a seller's auctions including a current price, reserve price, and an indicator of whether the latest bid was set by a prospective buyer or the seller masquerading as a buyer. The dashboard also indicates which auctions are below their reserve prices and displays reserve price suggestions and success probabilities based on qualitative and quantitative metrics.

Claims (33)

1. A method for providing a dashboard user interface for managing online auctions, the method being implemented by a network system and comprising:

determining, for each online auction of a plurality of online auctions, one or more reserve price suggestions based on at least one qualitative or quantitative metric and a corresponding set of reserve price probabilities that indicate a likelihood of that online auction reaching each of the one or more reserve price suggestions, wherein each of the plurality of online auctions is managed by a seller, and wherein each of the plurality of online auctions has a corresponding auction state;

presenting, by a computing device of the seller, a dynamically updated dashboard user interface for managing the plurality of online auctions, wherein the dashboard user interface displays, for each of the plurality of online auctions, a corresponding reserve price, the one or more reserve price suggestions, and the corresponding set of reserve price probabilities;

determining, by the computing device of the seller, one or more updated reserve price suggestions and a corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for a first online auction of the plurality of online auctions listed in the dashboard user interface in response to detecting a change in at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics for the first online auction after a bid is received for the first online auction, wherein the at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics includes a determination that the first online auction is within a period of time remaining until the end of the first online auction;

updating, by the computing device of the seller, the dashboard user interface to include the one or more updated reserve price suggestions and the corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction;

color coding, by the computing device of the seller, the one or more updated reserve price probabilities on the dashboard user interface corresponding to the one or more updated reserve price suggestions for the first online auction; and

presenting, by the computing device of the seller and via the dashboard user interface, the plurality of online auctions including the color-coded one or more updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction and one or more user interface features to enable the seller to select one of the one or more updated reserve price suggestions as the reserve price of the first online auction.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

indicating, on the dashboard user interface, (i) each online auction for which a current price exceeds the reserve price, and (ii) each online auction for which the current price is less than the reserve price.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dashboard user interface allows the seller to generate a new bid and conceal a source of the new bid from prospective bidders.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more reserve price suggestions for each online auction of the plurality of online auctions are determined based on at least one of a transaction history for an item being auctioned, a transaction history for a type of item being auctioned, a bidding activity of the online auction, or a scheduled event and the at least one of a profile information about the seller, a transaction history for the item being auctioned, and a transaction history for the type of item being auctioned.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the bidding activity of each online auction corresponds to a number of bidders, a number of views, or a number of registrations.

6. A computer system comprising:

one or more processors;

a memory resource storing a set of instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computer system to:

determine, for each online auction of a plurality of online auctions, one or more reserve price suggestions based on at least one qualitative or quantitative metric and a corresponding set of reserve price probabilities that indicate a likelihood of that online auction reaching each of the one or more reserve price suggestions, wherein each of the plurality of online auctions is managed by a seller, and wherein each of the plurality of online auctions has a corresponding auction state;

present a dynamically-updated dashboard user interface for managing the plurality of online auctions, wherein the dashboard user interface displays, for each of the plurality of online auctions, a corresponding reserve price, the one or more reserve price suggestions, and the corresponding set of reserve price probabilities;

determine one or more updated reserve price suggestions and a corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for a first online auction of the plurality of online auctions listed in the dashboard user interface in response to detecting a change in at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics for the first online auction after a bid is received for the first online auction, wherein the at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics includes a determination that the first online auction is within a period of time remaining until the end of the first online auction;

update the dashboard user interface to include the one or more updated reserve price suggestions and the corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction;

color code the one or more reserve price suggestions on the user interface for the first online auction; and

present, via the dashboard user interface, the plurality of online auctions including the color-coded one or more updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction and more user interface features to enable the seller to select one of the one or more updated reserve price suggestions as the reserve price of the first online auction.

7. The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the dashboard user interface allows the seller to generate a new bid and conceal a source of the new bid from a prospective buyer.

The computer system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more reserve price suggestions for each online auction of the plurality of online auctions are determined based on at least one of a transaction history for an item being auctioned, a transaction history for a type of item being auctioned, a bidding activity of the online auction, or a scheduled event and the at least one of a profile information about the seller, a transaction history for the item being auctioned, and a transaction history for the type of item being auctioned.

9. The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the bidding activity of each online auction corresponds to a number of bidders, a number of views, or a number of registrations.

10. A non-transitory machine-readable media containing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a network system, cause the network system to:

determine, for each online auction of a plurality of online auctions, one or more reserve price suggestions based on at least one qualitative or quantitative metric and a corresponding set of reserve price probabilities that indicate a likelihood of that online auction reaching each of the one or more reserve price suggestions, wherein each of the plurality of online auctions is managed by a seller, and wherein each of the plurality of online auctions has a corresponding auction state;

present a dynamically-updated dashboard user interface for managing the plurality of online auctions, wherein the dashboard user interface displays, for each of the plurality of online auctions, a corresponding reserve price, the one or more reserve price suggestions, and the corresponding set of reserve price probabilities;

determine one or more updated reserve price suggestions and a corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for a first online auction of the plurality of online auctions listed in the dashboard user interface in response to detecting a change in at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics for the first online auction after a bid is received for the first online auction, wherein the at least one of the qualitative or quantitative metrics includes a determination that the first online auction is within a period of time remaining until the end of the first online auction;

update the dashboard user interface to include the one or more updated reserve price suggestions and the corresponding set of updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction;

color code the one or more reserve price suggestions on the user interface for the first online auction; and

present, via the dashboard user interface, the plurality of online auctions including the color-coded one or more updated reserve price probabilities for the first online auction and one or more user interface features to enable the seller to select one of the one or more updated reserve price suggestions as the reserve price of the first online auction.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing, on the dashboard user interface, at least one corresponding condition for reducing the reserve price of the first online auction, wherein the at least one corresponding condition includes a number of bidders, number of page views, number of registered users, or number of bids received.

The computer system of claim 6 , further comprising providing, on the dashboard user interface, at least one corresponding condition for reducing the reserve price of the first online auction, wherein the at least one corresponding condition includes a number of bidders, number of page views, number of registered users, or number of bids received.
