HYALURONIC ACID-BASED GELS INCLUDING LIDOCAINE
Disclosed herein are cohesive soft tissue fillers, for example, dermal and subdermal fillers, based on hyaluronic acids and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. In one aspect, hyaluronic acid-based compositions described herein include a therapeutically effective amount of at least one anesthetic agent, for example, lidocaine. The present hyaluronic acid-based compositions including lidocaine have an enhanced stability and cohesivity, relative to conventional compositions including lidocaine, for example when subjected to sterilization techniques or when stored for long periods of time. Methods and processes of preparing such hyaluronic acid-based compositions are also provided.

A method of filling in facial lines and depressions comprising administering to a patient a sterile dermal filler composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), and about 0.3% lidocaine by weight, wherein the method fills in facial lines and depressions without a substantial reduction in duration of effect as compared to a second composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE wherein the second composition does not include lidocaine but otherwise has the same composition as the first composition.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the lidocaine in the first composition is freely released in vivo.
3 . The method of claim 2 wherein the duration of effect is at least 3 months.
4 . The method of claim 2 wherein the duration of effect is at least 6 months.
5 . The method of claim 2 wherein the duration of effect is at least 9 months.
6 . A method of restoring fat loss-related tissue volume comprising administering to a patient a sterile dermal filler composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), and about 0.3% lidocaine by weight, wherein the method restores fat loss-related tissue volume without a substantial reduction in duration of effect as compared to a second composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE wherein the second composition does not include lidocaine but otherwise has the same composition as the first composition.
7 . The method of claim 6 wherein the lidocaine in the first composition is freely released in vivo.
8 . The method of claim 7 wherein the duration of effect is at least 3 months.
9 . The method of claim 7 wherein the duration of effect is at least 6 months.
10 . The method of claim 7 wherein the duration of effect is at least 9 months.
11 . A method of filling in facial lines and depressions comprising administering to a patient a sterile dermal filler composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), and about 0.3% lidocaine by weight, wherein the method fills in facial lines and depressions without a substantial reduction in the filling effect provided by the administration of a second composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE wherein the second composition does not include lidocaine but otherwise has the same composition as the first composition.
12 . The method of claim 11 wherein the lidocaine in the first composition is freely released in vivo.
13 . A method of restoring fat loss-related tissue volume comprising administering to a patient a sterile dermal filler composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), and about 0.3% lidocaine by weight, wherein the method restores fat loss-related tissue volume without a substantial reduction in the tissue volume-restoring effect provided by the administration of a second composition comprising hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE wherein the second composition does not include lidocaine but otherwise has the same composition as the first composition.
14 . The method of claim 13 wherein the lidocaine in the first composition is freely released in vivo.
15 . The method of claim 6 wherein the restored fat loss-related tissue volume is the lips.
16 . The method of claim 13 wherein the restored fat loss-related tissue volume is the lips.
17 . The method of claim 6 wherein the restored fat loss-related tissue volume is the cheeks.
18 . The method of claim 13 wherein the restored fat loss-related tissue volume is the cheeks.
19 . The method of claim 1 wherein the facial lines and depressions are smile lines.
20 . The method of claim 1 wherein the facial lines and depressions are crow's feet.
