Abstract

A particular method includes extracting, at a computing device, uniform resource locator data from closed-captioning content. The method further includes receiving, at the computing device, user settings via a network interface. The user settings include an organizational preference corresponding to the uniform resource locator data. The method also includes generating, at the computing device, a web page that includes a portion of the uniform resource locator data as selectable links. The selectable links are organized according to the organizational preference.

Claims (47)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, at a first processor of a first device, media content from equipment of a service provider, wherein the media content includes closed-captioning content;

extracting, at the first processor, a uniform resource locator from the closed-captioning content;

storing, at the first device, the uniform resource locator as a portion of stored uniform resource locator data;

receiving, at the first device and from a second device, a user setting related to an organization preference, the organization preference indicating a date order, a subject matter order, an alphabetical order, or a combination thereof;

receiving, at the first device and from the second device, a request to access the stored uniform resource locator data;

responsive to receiving the request from the second device, generating, at a second processor of the first device, the second processor distinct from the first processor, a web page including selectable links of uniform resource locators retrieved from the stored uniform resource locator data, the selectable links arranged in the web page in an order specified by the organization preference related to the user setting; and

sending, to the second device, data representing the web page, the data including the uniform resource locators.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the web page includes the uniform resource locator as one of the selectable links.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stored uniform resource locator data includes a second uniform resource locator, wherein the web page includes a selectable link corresponding to the second uniform resource locator, and wherein the selectable link is associated with a particular category heading based on the organization preference.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first processor is a component of customer premises equipment, and wherein the user setting is stored in a memory of the customer premises equipment.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending information associated with the stored uniform resource locator data to a plugin corresponding to a web browser of the second device, wherein the request for the stored uniform resource locator data is received in response to the information.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user setting indicates a selection of a particular ordering type of a plurality of ordering types.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of ordering types includes a date received order type and an alphabetical order type.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

storing the stored uniform resource locator data at a database; and

storing the user setting at a memory.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user setting indicates that the stored uniform resource locator data is to be pushed to the second device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user setting from the second device indicates the date order.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

associating a check box with each uniform resource locator stored as a particular portion of the stored uniform resource locator data;

determining a set of checked uniform resource locators, wherein each member of the set is associated with a checked box;

adding the set of checked uniform resource locators to a uniform resource locator address book; and

removing the set of checked uniform resource locators from the stored uniform resource locator data.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein extracting the uniform resource locator comprises:

decoding the closed-captioning content into an American standard code for information interchange character stream; and

parsing the American standard code for information interchange character stream to retrieve the uniform resource locator.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending video content associated with the closed-captioning content to a display device.

14. A system comprising:

a first processor of a first device to receive media content from equipment of a service provider, to extract a uniform resource locator from closed-captioning content of the media content, to store the uniform resource locator as a portion of stored uniform resource locator data;

a second processor of the first device to generate, responsive to a receipt of a request to access the stored uniform resource locator data from a second device, a web page including selectable links of uniform resource locators retrieved from the stored uniform resource locator data, the selectable links arranged in the web page in an order specified by an organization preference related to a user setting received from the second device, the organization preference indicating a date order, a subject matter order, an alphabetical order, or a combination thereof, and the second processor distinct from the first processor;

a network interface; and

a web server to receive the request from the second device via the network interface and to send, to the second device via the network interface, data representing the web page, the data including the uniform resource locators.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the web page includes the uniform resource locator as one of the selectable links.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the stored uniform resource locator data includes a second uniform resource locator, wherein the web page includes a second selectable link corresponding to the second uniform resource locator, and wherein the second selectable link is associated with a particular category heading based on the organization preference.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein, in the web page, a check box is associated with the uniform resource locator, and wherein the web page includes a first selectable option to enable each uniform resource locator associated with a checked check box to be added to a uniform resource locator address book.

18. A computer-readable storage device storing first instructions that, when executed by a first processor of a first device, cause the first processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving media content from equipment of a service provider, wherein the media content includes closed-captioning content;

extracting a uniform resource locator from the closed-captioning content;

storing the uniform resource locator as a portion of stored uniform resource locator data;

receiving, from a second device, a user setting related to an organization preference, the organization preference indicating a date order, a subject matter order, an alphabetical order, or a combination thereof;

receiving, from the second device, a request to access the stored uniform resource locator data,

wherein the computer-readable storage device stores second instructions that, when executed by a second processor of the first device, the second processor distinct from the first processor, cause the second processor to perform operations comprising:

responsive to receiving the request from the second device, generating a web page including selectable links of uniform resource locators retrieved from the stored uniform resource locator data, the selectable links arranged in the web page in an order specified by the organization preference related to the user setting; and

sending data representing the web page to the second device, the data including the uniform resource locators.

19. The computer-readable storage device of claim 18 , wherein the user setting indicates that the stored uniform resource locator data is to be pushed to the second device.

20. The computer-readable storage device of claim 18 , wherein the web page is generated dynamically.
