Abstract

A one piece four-sided hardened steel boot tip for a distal end upper jaw tang of a heavy duty demolition shear having a upper movable shear jaw with a shear tip or tang. The tang has a front edge, side faces with apertures therethrough, a top seat, a rear seat and a bottom seat. The boot tip has a front wall seated on the tang front edge and a right side wall seated on the shear side tang face, rear seat and the top seat. A bottom wall of the boot tip is seated on the tang bottom seat and rear seat forming a shear punching edge between the front wall and the bottom wall. An access plate is seated on the guide side tang face, the top seat and the rear seat. The boot tip right side and access plate have matching apertures therethrough and alignable with the tang apertures to secure the boot and access plate to the tang. One or more shims may be used against the tang faces.

Claims (13)

1. A hardened steel boot tip assembly for a distal end tang of a demolition shear having a upper movable shear jaw with a shear side and a guide side pivotally connected to a lower shear jaw with a shear blade side, a guide side, a distal tie plate and a recess therebetween, wherein the tang has a front edge, side faces with apertures therethrough, a top seat, shear side and a guide side rear seats and a bottom seat, the boot tip assembly comprising:

(a) a one piece four-sided boot tip comprising:

(i) a front wall adapted to be seated on the tang front edge;

(ii) a right sidewall adapted to be seated on the shear side tang face and the shear side rear seat;

(iii) a bottom wall adapted to be seated on the tang bottom seat forming a shear punching edge between the font wall and the bottom wall adapted to meet the distal tie plate when the upper jaw passes into the recess;

(iv) a top wall adapted to be seated on the top seat; and

(b) an access plate adapted to be seated on the guide side tang face and the guide side rear seat, with the boot tip right sidewall and access plate having matching apertures therethrough and alignable with the tang apertures adaptable to secure the boot tip and the access plate to the tang with bolts, the front, right side, bottom and top walls together with the access plate defining a space for encapsulation and protection of the tang from the lower jaw shear side, the guide side and the tie plate as the upper jaw moves into the recess.

2. The boot tip assembly of claim 1 , further comprising one or more shims with matching apertures adapted to be insertable in between the boot tip against one of the tang faces and the access plate secured thereto with the bolts.

3. The boot tip of claim 2 , wherein the one or more shims are made of hardened sheet steel.

4. The boot tip assembly of claim 1 , wherein the right side wall has a lower portion that is reinforced.

5. The boot tip assembly of claim 1 , wherein the front, right, bottom and top walls define a rear opening opposite the front wall for sliding the boot tip over the tang.

6. The boot tip assembly of claim 1 , wherein the front, right, bottom and too walls define a left opening opposite the right side wall for receiving the access plate.

7. The boot tip assembly of claim 1 , wherein the bottom wall has shear side and guide side edges adapted to meet the shear blade side and the guide side as the upper jaw passes into the recess.
