Abstract

Included are methods for facilitating routing of control data associated with a communication to a plurality of recorders. One such method, among others, includes receiving control data related to a communication and routing the received control data to at least one recorder via a layer 3 protocol.

Claims (38)

1. Internet protocol (IP) analyzer configured to facilitate recording of at least one communication, the IP analyzer comprising:

a processor; and

a volatile and nonvolatile memory, in which the processor executes:

logic configured to receive control data related to a communication at a first site;

logic configured to select at least one recorder at a second site that is configured to receive communication data related to the communication at the first site, wherein communication data related to the communication is sent via a layer 3 protocol to the selected at least one recorder at the second site;

logic configured to route the received control data to the selected at least one recorder at the second site via the layer 2 protocol, the at least one recorder at the second site receiving the control data related to the communication at the first site;

logic configured to detect a malfunction with the selected recorder; and

logic configured to reroute the received control data to another at least one recorder at the second site via the layer 2 protocol upon detecting the malfunction,

wherein the first and the second site are disparate locations each having a gateway that connect to a network;

wherein the logic configured to receive the control data is further configured to passively receive mirrored control data;

logic configured to passively receive the mirrored control data from a call control engine.

2. The IP analyzer of claim 1 , wherein the communication traverses at least one of the following: a wide area network (WAN) and an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network.

3. The IP analyzer of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to send control data to all recorders communicatively coupled to the IP analyzer.

4. The IP analyzer of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to determine an address associated with the at least one recorder that is configured to receive the communication data.

5. The IP analyzer of claim 1 , further comprising logic configured to send data to a load balancer via a TCP/IP connection.

6. A method for facilitating routing of control data associated with a communication to a plurality of recorders, the method comprising:

receiving control data related to a communication at an Internet Protocol (IP) analyzer at a first site via a layer 3 protocol, wherein the communication is configured for transmission across a Wide Area Network (WAN);

routing the received control data by the IP analyzer to at least one recorder at a second site via a layer 3 protocol;

detecting a malfunction within one of the recorders routed to by the IP analyzer; and upon detecting a malfunction, rerouting the received control data to another at least one recorder at the second site via the layer 2 protocol,

wherein the first site and the second site are disparate locations each having a gateway that connects through the WAN;

wherein the received control data includes passively received mirrored data;

wherein the received control data is received for a call control engine.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein routing the received control data to at least one recorder includes routing the received control data to at least one load balancer, the at least one load balancer being configured to distribute received data among a plurality of recorders.

8. The method of claim 6 , further comprising selecting at least one load balancer for receiving communication data related to the communication.

9. The method of claim 6 , further comprising routing the received control data to all recorders that are communicatively coupled to the WAN.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein sending control data to at least one recorder includes sending control data across a TCP/IP connection.

11. A system for routing communication data to a plurality of recorders, comprising:

at least one recorder at a first site configured to receive communications data from a second site via a layer 3 protocol and interpret at least a portion of the communications data via the layer 3 protocol; and an Internet Protocol (IP) analyzer coupled to the at least one recorder at the first site, the IP analyzer configured to:

receive control data related to the communication from the second site via the layer 3 protocol;

select the at least one recorder at the first site that is configured to receive communication data related to the communication from the second site;

route control data from the second site to the selected at least one recorder at the first site via the layer 3 protocol;

detect a malfunction within the selected recorder; and

upon the detected malfunction, reroute the received control data to another at least one recorder at the second site via the layer 2 protocol;

wherein the IP analyzer is further configured to passively receive mirrored control data;

wherein the IP analyzer is configured to passively receive the mirrored control data from a call control engine.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the communication traverses at least one of the following: a wide area network (WAN) and an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network.

13. The system of claim 11 , further comprising a plurality of recorders, at least one of the plurality of recorders being configured to receive data related to the communication.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the IP analyzer is further configured to interpret the received data and issue at least one record command to at least one recorder.
