Abstract

Systems and methods for providing deeper knee flexion capabilities. In some instances, such systems and methods include an asymmetrical femoral component that includes a femoral prosthesis that is configured to attach to a distal portion of a femur. In some such instances, the prosthesis includes a medial condyle and a lateral condyle, wherein a medial-lateral width of an articulation surface of the lateral condyle is approximately 75% or less of a medial-lateral width of an articulation surface of the medial condyle. Other implementations are also discussed.

11. The component of claim 1 , wherein a posterior articular portion of the at least one of the medial condyle and the lateral condyle extends in a proximal anterior direction so as to extend at least half of an anterior posterior distance between a most posterior portion of the at least one of the medial condyle and the lateral condyle and a plane that is a continuation of a distal one fourth to one third of a posterior cortex of a femoral shaft of the femur.

12. The component of claim 1 , wherein the femoral prosthesis comprises:

a first interior surface that is configured to interface with an anterior chamfer cut at the distal portion of the femur; and

a femoral prosthesis configured to attach to a distal portion of a femur, the prosthesis comprising:

a medial condyle;

a lateral condyle;

a patellar groove; and

a concave articulation surface that is configured to articulate against a portion of at least one of a tibia and a tibial component when the prosthesis is seated in a knee joint,

wherein the patellar groove extends laterally at an angle from a distal posterior portion of the patellar groove, to a distal anterior portion of the patellar groove, and to a proximal anterior portion of the patellar groove,

wherein a medial-lateral width of an articular portion of the lateral condyle is less than about 75% of a medial-lateral width of an articular portion of the medial condyle,
