METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PROVIDING CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION
Methods for providing contextual information about communication devices and/or services. Profile information indicating a user's communication devices and/or services is stored. When profile information or a message log is displayed, the user may identify a communication device and/or service. A query inquires whether the user would like contextual information. The contextual information may be obtained from a gateway in a data network or a telecommunications manager in a telecommunication network. The contextual information is displayed. Profile information about a user's communicating partner may be stored. When the user makes an effort to communicate with the partner, a check may be made of the partner's profile information for a preferred communication device and/or service. If the user does not have a communication device and/or service corresponding to that of the communicating partner, a query may inquire whether the user would like contextual information. If so, the contextual information is presented.
1 . A method comprising:
providing a communication log including a plurality of communications;
detecting, using at least one processor, a user interaction with respect to a communication from the plurality of communications;
identifying, based on information in the communication, contextual information to provide to the user; and
providing, to the user and in conjunction with the communication log, a notification that the contextual information is available to the user.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising presenting a plurality of selectable options within the notification, wherein a first selectable option is associated with a first product and a second selectable option is associated with a second product.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
detecting a selection, from the user, of the first selectable option; and
in response to detecting the selection of the first selectable option, presenting contextual information corresponding to the first product.
4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising providing, to the user and in conjunction with presenting contextual information corresponding to the first product, a link to a website associated with the first product.
5 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
detecting a selection, from the user, of the second selectable option; and
in response to detecting the selection of the second selectable option, presenting contextual information corresponding to the second product.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
detecting a user interaction with the notification;
in response to the detected user interaction with the notification, comparing a communication service of the user with an available communication service; and
based on the comparison of the communication service of the user with the available communication service, presenting the user a second notification comprising an option acquire the available service.
7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising determining, based on the comparison of the communication service of the user with the available communication service, the available communication service is an upgraded version of the communication service of the user.
8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising:
detecting a user interaction with the second notification; and
in response to the detected user interaction with the second notification, causing the communication service of the user to be upgraded to the available communication service.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
detecting a user interaction with the notification;
in response to the detected user interaction with the notification, providing, to the user, a second notification that requests additional user interaction;
detecting a user interaction with the second notification; and
in response to the detected user interaction with the second notification, providing contextual information to the user.
10 . A method comprising:
identifying, using at least one processor, a communication associated with a user;
identifying, based on content of the identified communication, contextual information to provide to the user; and
providing, to the user and in conjunction with the communication, a notification that the contextual information is available to the user.
11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising presenting, to the user and within the notification, a selectable option associated with a directory path to stored content, wherein the contextual information comprises the stored content.
12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
detecting a selection, by the user, of the selectable option associated with the directory path to stored content; and
providing, to the user and based on the detected selection, the stored content.
13 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
identifying a term within the communication associated with the user; and
wherein identifying contextual information to provide to the user is further based on the identified term.
14 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
identifying a sender of the communication associated with the user; and
wherein identifying contextual information to provide to the user is further based on the identified sender.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the notification comprises an invitation to access additional information about the sender.
16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising:
detecting a user interaction with the notification; and
in response to the detected user interaction, providing the contextual information to the user, the contextual information comprising user profile information for the sender.
17 . A system comprising:
at least one processor; and
at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
provide a communication log including a plurality of communications;
detect a user interaction with respect to a communication from the plurality of communications;
identify, based on information in the communication, contextual information to provide to the user; and
provide, to the user and in conjunction with the communication log, a notification that the contextual information is available to the user.
18 . The system of claim 17 , further comprising instructions, that when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
generate content based on the contextual information; and
present the content, to the user, within the notification.
19 . The system of claim 17 , further comprising instructions, that when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
monitor, for a predetermined amount of time after providing the notification, for a user interaction with respect to the notification; and
upon an expiration of the predetermined amount of time, and without detecting the user interaction with respect to the notification, cease to provide the notification.
20 . The system of claim 17 , further comprising instructions, that when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
monitor, for a predetermined amount of time after providing the notification, for a user interaction with respect to the notification;
detect the user interaction with respect to the notification prior to an expiration of the predetermined amount of time; and
present, based on the detected user interaction, the contextual information to the user.
