Abstract

The steel wire of diameter d expressed in mm, has a carbon content by weight C, expressed in %, such that 0.5%≦C≦0.6% and a maximum tensile strength R, expressed in MPa, such that R≧A·(920·C+500)/d 1/2 with A=1 and R≦2950 MPa.

13 . A steel wire, comprising:

iron; and

carbon,

wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.5%≦C≦0.6%, with C being expressed in %, and

wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by

R≧A ·(920· C+ 500)/ d 1/2 ,

with R being expressed in MPa, with A=1 or greater, with R≧2950 MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

14 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein 0.5%≦C<0.6%.

15 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein 0.5%<C<0.6%.

16 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein 0.55%≦C≦0.6%.

17 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein A=1.10 or greater.

18 . The steel wire according to claim 17 , wherein A=1.18 or greater.

19 . The steel wire according to claim 18 , wherein A=1.26 or greater.

20 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein R≧3100 MPa.

21 . The steel wire according to claim 20 , wherein R≧3200 MPa.

22 . The steel wire according to claim 21 , wherein R≧3300 MPa.

23 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein R≦3.7·(920·C+500).

24 . The steel wire according to claim 23 , wherein R≦3.6·(920·C+500).

25 . The steel wire according to claim 24 , wherein R≦3.5·(920·C+500).

26 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein d is greater than or equal to 0.10 mm.

27 . The steel wire according to claim 26 , wherein d is greater than or equal to 0.12 mm.

28 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein d is less than or equal to 0.25 mm.

29 . The steel wire according to claim 28 , wherein d is less than or equal to 0.23 mm.

30 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein a microstructure of the steel wire is ferritic-pearlitic or pearlitic.

31 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein the steel wire is incorporated in a tyre.

32 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein the steel wire is one of a plurality of steel wires arranged together to form a cord.

33 . The steel wire according to claim 13 , wherein the steel wire is embedded in a rubber matrix and is incorporated in a semi-finished product.

34 . A cord, comprising:

a plurality of steel wires, each steel wire including:

iron, and

carbon,

wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.5%≦C≦0.6%, with C being expressed in %, and

wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by

R≧A ·(920· C+ 500)/ d 1/2 ,

with R being expressed in MPa, with A=1 or greater, with R≧2950 MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

35 . A tyre, comprising:

at least one steel wire, each steel wire including:

iron, and

 carbon,

 wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.5%≦C≦0.6%, with C being expressed in %, and

 wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by

R≧A ·(920· C+ 500)/ d 1/2 ,

with R being expressed in MPa, with A=1 or greater, with R≧2950 MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

36 . The tyre according to claim 35 , further comprising:

a carcass reinforcement,

wherein the tyre is for a heavy-duty type of vehicle, and

wherein the at least one steel wire is incorporated in the carcass reinforcement.
