Abstract

The steel wire of diameter d expressed in mm, has a carbon content by weight C, expressed in %, such that 0.6%≦C≦0.74% and a maximum tensile strength R, expressed in MPa, such that: for d<0.17, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 with A=0.96, for 0.17≦d≦0.23, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 with A=1.24.

14 . A steel wire, comprising:

iron; and

carbon,

wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.6%≦C≦0.74%, with C being expressed in %, and

wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by:

for d<0.17, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=0.96 or greater,

for 0.17≦d≦0.23, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=1.24 or greater,

with R being expressed in MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

15 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein 0.65%≦C≦0.74%.

16 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein A=1.10 or greater for d<0.17.

17 . The steel wire according to claim 16 , wherein A=1.14 or greater.

18 . The steel wire according to claim 17 , wherein A=1.18 or greater.

19 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein, for 0.17≦d≦0.23, A=1.26 or greater.

20 . The steel wire according to claim 19 , wherein A=1.28 or greater.

21 . The steel wire according to claim 20 , wherein A=1.30 or greater.

22 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein, for d<0.17, R≧2900 MPa.

23 . The steel wire according to claim 22 , wherein R≧3300 MPa.

24 . The steel wire according to claim 23 , wherein R≧3400 MPa.

25 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein, for 0.17≦d≦0.23, R≧3000 MPa.

26 . The steel wire according to claim 25 , wherein R≧3250 MPa.

27 . The steel wire according to claim 26 , wherein R≧3500 MPa.

28 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein R≦3.7.(920.C+500).

29 . The steel wire according to claim 28 , wherein R≦3.6.(920.C+500).

30 . The steel wire according to claim 29 , wherein R≦3.5.(920.C+500).

31 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein d is greater than or equal to 0.10 mm.

32 . The steel wire according to claim 31 , wherein d is greater than or equal to 0.12 mm.

33 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein a microstructure of the steel wire is ferritic-pearlitic or pearlitic.

34 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein the steel wire is incorporated in a tyre.

35 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein the steel wire is one of a plurality of steel wires arranged together to form a cord.

36 . The steel wire according to claim 14 , wherein the steel wire is embedded in a rubber matrix and is incorporated in a semi-finished product.

37 . A cord, comprising:

a plurality of steel wires, each steel wire including:

iron, and

carbon,

wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.6%≦C≦0.74%, with C being expressed in %, and

wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by:

for d<0.17, R≦A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=0.96 or greater,

for 0.17≦d≦0.23, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=1.24 or greater, with R being expressed in MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

38 . A tyre, comprising:

at least one steel wire, each steel wire including:

iron, and

carbon,

wherein the carbon is present in the steel wire at a carbon content by weight C of 0.6%≦C≦0.74%, with C being expressed in %, and

wherein a maximum tensile strength R of the steel wire is given by:

for d<0.17, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=0.96 or greater,

for 0.17≦d≦0.23, R≧A.(920.C+500)/d 1/2 , with A=1.24 or greater,

with R being expressed in MPa, and with d being a diameter of the steel wire expressed in mm.

39 . The tyre according to claim 38 , further comprising:

a carcass reinforcement,

wherein the tyre is for a heavy-duty type of vehicle, and

wherein the at least one steel wire is incorporated in the carcass reinforcement.
