Abstract

An adjustable seal apparatus for mounting a mixing apparatus having a movable shaft in sealed engagement with a wall of a vessel and in a selected orientation with respect to the wall of the vessel. The adjustable seal apparatus includes a seal mechanism for creating a gas-tight seal between the shaft of the mixing apparatus and the wall of the vessel and an adjustable mounting mechanism for selectively positioning the shaft in a desired orientation.

Claims (9)

1. An adjustable seal apparatus for mounting a drive mechanism having a movable shaft in sealed engagement with a wall of a vessel and in a selected orientation with respect to the wall of the vessel, said adjustable seal apparatus comprising:

an adjustable mounting plate having an aperture, the drive mechanism adapted to be attached to the mounting plate with the shaft of the drive mechanism extending through said aperture of said mounting plate;

one or more adjustable mounting apparatus adapted to couple the mounting plate to the wall of the vessel, each said mounting apparatus having an adjustably positionable support member adapted to support the mounting plate in a selected position and in a desired orientation with respect to the wall of the vessel; and

a seal member adapted to be coupled in sealing engagement with said mounting plate and adapted to be coupled in sealing engagement with the wall of the vessel, said seal member extending around said aperture of said mounting plate.

The adjustable seal apparatus of claim 1 wherein said seal member comprises a first end having a first aperture, a second end having a second aperture, and a flexible side wall extending between said first end and said second end, said side wall extending around said first aperture of said first end of said seal member and around said second aperture of said second end of said seal member, said side wall of said seal member being flexible such that said first end of said seal member is selectively positionable in a desired orientation with respect to said second end of said seal member.

The adjustable seal apparatus of claim 2 including a first clamping member adapted to clamp said first end of said seal member in sealing engagement with said adjustable mounting plate, and a second clamping member adapted to clamp said second end of said seal member in sealing engagement with the wall of the vessel.

4. The adjustable seal member of claim 1 wherein said seal member is formed from an elastomeric material.

5. The adjustable seal member of claim 1 wherein said seal member is formed from a metallic material.

6. The adjustable seal member of claim 2 wherein said seal member includes a first flange at said first end of said seal member, said first flange including said first aperture, and a second flange at said second end of said seal member, said second flange including said second aperture.
