Abstract

Managing content is disclosed. An indication is received that a content item comprising a body of managed content is associated with a business object not included in the body of managed content. The content item is linked with the business object.

Claims (29)

1. A method of managing content comprising:

receiving an indication that a content item comprising a body of managed content is associated with a business object not included in the body of managed content; and

linking, using a processor, a content item identifier identifying the content item via a link to a business object identifier identifying the business object, wherein the link comprises one or more of a hard link comprising a table entry that includes the business object identifier and the content item identifier, and a soft link comprising an attribute included in metadata associated with the content item; and

accessing, via a portal, the content item, the content item accessed at least in part by using the business object identifier to access the link, wherein the portal is connected to one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, and wherein the content item is accessed in response to the portal detecting one or more events broadcast from the one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, at least one of the event broadcasts including the business object identifier, a type associated with the business object identifier, and an identification of an action that initiated the event associated with the at least one of the event broadcasts.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link is the hard link.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the hard link is accessible from a document server.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the hard link is accessible from a business server.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the link is the soft link.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the linking is performed manually.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the linking is performed automatically.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein access to the content item is provided automatically when an action is performed with respect to the business object.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the content item is retrieved automatically when the business object is retrieved.

10. A system for managing content comprising:

a processor; and

a memory coupled with the processor, wherein the memory is configured to provide the processor with instructions which when executed cause the processor to:

receive an indication that a content item comprising a body of managed content is associated with a business object not included in the body of managed content; and

link a content item identifier identifying the content item via a link to a business object identifier identifying the business object, wherein the link comprises one or more of a hard link comprising a table entry that includes the business object identifier and the content item identifier, and a soft link comprising an attribute included in metadata associated with the content item; and

wherein the content item is accessed via a portal at least in part by using, the business object identifier to access the link, wherein the portal is connected to one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, and wherein the content item is accessed in response to the portal detecting one or more events broadcast from the one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, at least one of the event broadcasts including the business object identifier, a type associated with the business object identifier, and an identification of an action that initiated the event associated with the at least one of the event broadcasts.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the link is the hard link.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the hard link is accessible from a document server.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the hard link is accessible from a business server.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the link is the soft link.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the soft link comprises an attribute included in metadata associated with the content item.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein to processor is further configured to provide access to the content item automatically when an action is performed with respect to the business object.

17. A computer program product to manage content, the computer program product being embodied in non-transitory a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving an indication that a content item comprising a body of managed content is associated with a business object not included in the body of managed content; and

linking, using a processor, a content item identifier identifying the content item via a link to a business object identifier identifying the business object, wherein the link comprises one or more of a hard link comprising a table entry that includes the business object identifier and the content item identifier, and a soft link comprising an attribute included in metadata associated with the content item;

wherein the content item is accessed via a portal at least in part by using the business object identifier to access the link, wherein the portal is connected to one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, and wherein the content item is accessed in response to the portal detecting one or more events broadcast from the one or more business applications or one or more portal applications, at least one of the event broadcasts including the business, object identifier, a type associated with the business object identifier, and an identification of an action that initiated the event associated with the at least one of the event broadcasts.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more events broadcast from the one or more business applications or one or more portal applications comprises a payload from which the business object identifier is determined.
