Abstract

Embodiments of a the present disclosure include a remote control system for a welding system having a control device and control circuitry configured to select a first operating parameter adjustment for a first operating parameter of the welding system based on a first actuation of the control device, wherein the first operating parameter adjustment comprises an adjustment to a rate of change of the first operating parameter.

Claims (43)

1. A remote control system for a welding system, comprising:

a control device disposed on an outer surface of a handle a welding torch, wherein:

the control device comprises a multi-axis control device, wherein the multi-axis control device comprises a joystick, and

the control device is configured to adjust multiple operating parameters of the welding system based on movement or position of input relative to multiple axes of the multi-axis control device; and

control circuitry configured to:

identify a first discrete input actuation of the control device, the first discrete input actuation comprising a first magnitude;

identifying a first operating parameter of the welding system based on at least one of position and direction of the first discrete input actuation relative to at least one axis of the multiple axes;

determine a rate of change of the first operating parameter of the welding system based on the first magnitude; and

adjust the first operating parameter by a first operating parameter adjustment based on the rate of change of the first operating parameter.

2. The remote control system for the welding system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

identify a second discrete input actuation of the control device, the second discrete input actuation comprising a second magnitude;

determine a second rate of change of a second operating parameter of the welding system based on the second magnitude; and

adjust the second operating parameter by a second operating parameter adjustment based on the second rate of change of the second operating parameter.

3. The remote control system for the welding system of claim 2 , wherein the first discrete input actuation comprises actuation of the control device along a first axis, the first magnitude corresponds to a magnitude of actuation along the first axis, the second discrete input actuation comprises actuation of the control device along a second axis, the second magnitude corresponds to a magnitude of actuation along the second axis, and the first and second axes are perpendicular to one another.

4. The remote control system for the welding system of claim 2 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to simultaneously adjust the first operating parameter by the first operating parameter adjustment and adjust the second operating parameter by the second operating parameter adjustment for the second operating parameter of the welding system.

5. The remote control system for the welding system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to determine the first operating parameter adjustment based on a greatest unit vector of the first discrete input actuation.

6. The remote control system for the welding system of claim 1 , wherein a relationship between the first discrete input actuation and the first operating parameter adjustment is non-linear.

7. A system, comprising:

a welding torch comprising a handle; and

a remote control system at least partially disposed on an outer surface of the handle of the welding torch, the remote control system comprising:

a control device, wherein:

the control device comprises a multi-axis control device, wherein the multi-axis control device comprises a joystick, and

the control device is configured to adjust multiple operating parameters of the welding system based on movement or position of input relative to multiple axes of the multi-axis control device; and

control circuitry configured to:

identify a first discrete input actuation of the control device, the first discrete input actuation comprising a first magnitude;

identifying a first operating parameter of the welding system based on at least one of position and direction of the first discrete input actuation relative to at least one axis of the multiple axes;

determine a rate of change of the first operating parameter of the welding system based on the first magnitude; and

adjust the first operating parameter by a first operating parameter adjustment based on the rate of change of the first operating parameter;

wherein a relationship between an input magnitude of the first discrete input actuation of the control device and the first operating parameter adjustment is non-linear.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the remote control system comprises a feedback indicator configured to providing an indication of an attained value of the first operating parameter.

9. A system, comprising:

a remote control system for a welding system, comprising:

a control device disposed on an outer surface of a handle of a welding torch, wherein:
