Abstract

According to an aspect, a method for providing assistance to a user of a mobile device includes receiving a signal from a short-range wireless communication transmitter. The signal includes an identification code, and the receiving is by a mobile device of a user located within the space. The signal is processed on the mobile device and includes: determining whether information associated with the signal is stored on the mobile device; and identifying a retrieval location of the information based on the determining and on the signal. The processing of the signal is performed exclusively by a software application located on the mobile device and independently of any networks. Based on the processing, information that includes an address of a security system is retrieved using the mobile device. The mobile device is monitored for inputs and based on receiving a security request, the security request is transmitted to the security system.

monitoring the mobile device for inputs; and

in response to receiving an input at the mobile device that includes a security request, transmitting the security request to the security system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the security request includes a location of the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the location is determined by the mobile device using triangulation based on signals received at the mobile device from three or more short-range wireless communication transmitters.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a reset command at the mobile device, wherein the transmitting is performed periodically prior to receiving the reset command.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising activating one or more of a camera, an audio device, and a video device on the mobile device based on receiving the security request.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising transmitting output from the one or more of a camera, an audio device, and a video device to the security system.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein in response to receiving an input at the mobile device that includes an inquiry, responding to the inquiry.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to the transmitting, receiving data from the security system; and

outputting a message via the mobile device, the message based on the data received from the security system.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the message is in the form of at least one of visual, audio and haptic.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the short-range wireless communication transmitter is contained in a security call system.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an input at the mobile device that includes an inquiry; and

responding to the inquiry.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an input at the mobile device that includes a request for additional information;

based on receiving the input, retrieving the additional information from the retrieval location using the mobile device; and

displaying the additional information on the mobile device.

13. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory storage medium readable by a processing circuit of a processor located on a mobile device and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit to perform a method comprising:

receiving a signal from a geographic location that is positioned within a space defined by an effective reception range of a short-range wireless communication transmitter, wherein the signal is received from the short-range wireless communication transmitter, the signal includes an identification code, and the receiving is by the mobile device of a user located within the space;

processing the signal on the mobile device, the processing including:

determining whether information associated with the signal is stored on the mobile device; and

identifying a retrieval location of the information based on the determining and on the signal, wherein the processing the signal is performed exclusively by a software application located on the mobile device and independently of any networks;

based on the processing, retrieving the information from the retrieval location using the mobile device, the information including an address of a security system;

monitoring the mobile device for inputs; and

in response to receiving an input at the mobile device that includes a security request, transmitting the security request to the security system.

14. A mobile device comprising:

a processing device; and

a memory device in communication with the processing device, the memory device storing instructions that when executed by the processing device result in:

receiving a signal from a geographic location that is positioned within a space defined by an effective reception range of a short-range wireless communication transmitter, wherein the signal is received from the short-range wireless communication transmitter, the signal includes an identification code, and the receiving is by the mobile device of a user located within the space;

processing the signal on the mobile device, the processing including:

determining whether information associated with the signal is stored on the mobile device; and

identifying a retrieval location of the information based on the determining and on the signal, wherein the processing the signal is performed exclusively by a software application located on the mobile device and independently of any networks;

based on the processing, retrieving the information from the retrieval location using the mobile device, the information including an address of a security system;

monitoring the mobile device for inputs; and

in response to receiving an input at the mobile device that includes a security request, transmitting the security request to the security system.

15. A method for providing assistance to a user of a mobile device, the method comprising:

receiving a signal from a geographic location that is positioned within a space defined by an effective reception range of a short-range wireless communication transmitter, wherein the signal is received from the short-range wireless communication transmitter, the signal includes an identification code, and the receiving is by a mobile device of a user located within the space;

processing the signal on the mobile device, the processing including:

determining whether information associated with the signal is stored on the mobile device; and
