PCB-mount electrical connector with shielding for inhibiting crosstalk
A board-mount electrical connector includes an electrically conductive rear shell interposed between a contact-retaining front body and an insulator member that holds a plurality of board-mount contacts. The rear shell includes at least one electrically conductive shielding divider that extends through the insulator member and is positioned between two or more of the board-mount contacts. Also disclosed is a rear shell elbow for an electrical connector that is assembled from a pair of slidably interlocking members that form an X-shaped divider within the rear shell when assembled.
1. A rear shell for an electrical connector, comprising:
a first elbow part including left and right side walls and a central first web portion extending between the left and right side walls, the first web portion including a first slot; and
a second elbow part including front and rear walls and a central second web portion extending between the front and rear walls, the second web portion including a second slot, and
the first and second slots are sized so that the web portions of the respective first and second elbow parts can be slidably interlocked so that the left and right side walls and the front and rear walls together form a rear shell and the web portions form an X-shaped divider within the rear shell.
2. The rear shell of claim 1 , wherein the first and second elbow parts are electrically conductive.
3. The rear shell of claim 2 , wherein the first and second web portions extend along the entire length of the respective first and second elbow parts so that, when the first and second elbow parts are assembled, the X-shaped divider extends through the rear shell to form four passageways extending entirely through the rear shell.
4. The rear shell of claim 1 , wherein:
each of the left and right side walls of the first elbow part has a minor arcuate edge and a major arcuate edge, the first web portion connects to each of the side walls medially of the minor and major arcuate edges thereof and along a curved surface parallel thereto; and
the front wall of the second elbow part includes first and second minor arcuate edges, and the rear wall of the second elbow part includes first and second major arcuate edges, so that when the first and second elbow parts are slidably interlocked the first and second minor arcuate edges of the second elbow part slidingly mate with the respective first and second minor arcuate edges of the first elbow part, and the first and second major arcuate edges of the second elbow part slidingly made with the respective first and second major arcuate edges of the first elbow part.
5. The rear shell of claim 1 , wherein:
the left and right side walls of the first elbow part each has a rear end including a mounting foot and a bottom recess surface, and the first web portion includes a blade portion projecting beyond the recess surfaces; and
the front and rear walls of the second elbow part include co-planar bottom surfaces, and the second web portion includes a blade extension projecting beyond the co-planar bottom surfaces.
6. The rear shell of claim 5 , wherein, when the first and second elbow parts are assembled in the slidably interlocked arrangement, the blade portion and the blade extension both project beyond the mounting feet of the left and right side walls.
