Abstract

The invention relates to methods, notably carried out by global or regional navigation satellite system (NSS) receivers, which involve receiving satellite-specific, nadir-angle dependent correction information associated with each of at least two NSS satellites among a plurality of NSS satellites. The correction information is useful to correct observed NSS signals, so as to mitigate the effects of satellite-specific, nadir-angle dependent biases in the NSS signals, and thus improve the performance of position determination systems. The invention also relates to methods for generating such correction information, to methods for designing a satellite, to NSS receivers, to apparatuses for generating correction information to be sent to the receivers, and to computer programs and storage mediums.

Claims (30)

1. Method, carried out by a global or regional navigation satellite system receiver, hereinafter abbreviated as NSS receiver, or by a NSS receiver and a processing entity connected to the NSS receiver, to estimate parameters derived at least from NSS signals, the method comprising:

observing a NSS signal from each of a plurality of NSS satellites;

receiving “satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information” associated with each of at least two NSS satellites among the plurality of NSS satellites, wherein generating the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information includes:

receiving raw observations obtained by observing NSS signals from each of the at least two NSS satellites from a plurality of reference stations;

determining combination values based on the raw observations to cancel out effects of clocks, effects of troposphere, and effects of ionosphere; and

generating the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information based on a difference between the determined combination values and a satellite specific reference value that is constant over all nadir angles;

wherein the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with each of the at least two NSS satellites comprises satellite-specific pseudorange correction information that depends on a nadir angle of the NSS receiver as seen from the NSS satellite;

processing the observed NSS signals from the plurality of NSS satellites using the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information to correct the observed NSS signals or data derived therefrom so as to mitigate the effects of satellite-specific, nadir-angle dependent pseudorange biases in the NSS signals from the NSS satellites;

estimating the parameters based at least in part on the processed NSS signals; and

determining the position of the NSS receiver based at least in part on the parameters.

2. Method of claim 1 , wherein the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with the at least two NSS satellites comprises frequency-specific correction information.

3. Method of claim 1 , wherein the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with the at least two NSS satellites comprises satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with each of the plurality of NSS satellites.

4. Method of claim 1 , wherein the satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with the at least two NSS satellites comprises satellite-specific-nadir-angle-dependent-correction-information associated with at least one BeiDou satellite.
