Abstract

A carseat system comprising a base, a child seat, and four locking points. The base comprises an upper surface that receives a child seat and a lower surface that rests upon a vehicle seat, left and rights sides, and first and second ends. The child seat comprises a seating surface, an exterior surface, and left and right sides. The four locking points removably engage the child seat to the base and comprise a first pair of locking points positioned toward the first end of the base and a second pair of locking points positioned toward the second end of the base. The first pair of locking points comprise left and right securing members connected to the child seat and extendable in a direction perpendicular to the left and right sides of the child seat, and slots defined in the upper surface of the base that can engage the securing members.

Claims (36)

1. A carseat system comprising:

a base comprising an upper surface dimensioned to receive a child seat and a lower surface dimensioned to rest upon a vehicle seat, left and right sides, and first and second ends;

a child seat comprising a seating surface, an exterior back surface, a bottom surface, and left and right sides; and

four locking points to removably engage the child seat to the base comprising a first pair of locking points positioned toward the first end of the base and a second pair of locking points positioned toward the second end of the base;

the first pair of locking points comprise:

left and right retractable securing projections connected to the child seat and positioned within respective left and right perimeters defining the left and right sides of the child seat, the left and right retractable securing projections are movable to extend and retract in a direction perpendicular to the respective left and right sides of the child seat; and

slots defined in the upper surface of the base that are dimensioned to engage the left and right retractable securing projections.

2. The carseat system of claim 1 , wherein the left and right retractable securing projections are spring biased to extend outwardly in a direction perpendicular to the respective left and right sides of the child seat.

3. The carseat system of claim 1 , wherein the second locking points comprise a pair of securing latches.

4. The carseat system of claim 3 , wherein the securing latches are connected to the base, each of the securing latches comprising a hook shaped-member that engages a complementary receiving member of the child seat.

5. The carseat system of claim 1 , further comprising an actuator control to release the engagement between the child seat and the base.

6. The carseat system of claim 5 , wherein the actuator control is positioned at a head of the exterior back surface of the child seat.

7. The carseat system of claim 1 , wherein the bottom surface of the child seat further comprises, left and right side rails that rest on the upper surface of the base.

8. The carseat system of claim 7 , wherein the left and right side rails each comprise a groove that engages a respective guiding member on the upper surface of the base when the child seat is engaged with the base.

9. The carseat system of claim 7 , wherein the left and right retractable securing projections are attached to the left and right side rails.

10. A carseat system comprising:

a base comprising an upper surface dimensioned to receive a child seat and a lower surface dimensioned to rest upon a vehicle seat, left and right sides, and first and second ends;

a child seat comprising a seating surface, an exterior surface, and left and right sides;

four locking points to removably engage the child seat to the base comprising a first pair of locking points positioned toward the first end of the base and a second pair of locking points positioned toward the second end of the base, the first pair of locking points comprise:

left and right securing members connected to the child seat and extendable in a direction perpendicular to the respective left and right sides of the child seat; and

slots defined in the upper surface of the base that are dimensioned to engage the left and right securing members;

wherein the exterior surface of the child seat further comprises, left and right side rails that rest on the upper surface of the base, the left and right side rails each comprise a groove that engages a respective guiding member on the upper surface of the base when the child seat is engaged with the base.

11. A multi-point locking system for connecting a plurality of parts of a multi-part carseat, the system comprising:

a base comprising an upper surface that receives a passenger seat, a lower surface dimensioned to rest upon a vehicle seat, first and second ends, and left and right sides;

the base further comprising four locking points comprising two spaced apart locking points positioned toward the first end of the base and two spaced apart locking points positioned toward the second end of the base;

a passenger seat that is dimensioned to be received by the upper surface of the base comprising a seating surface, an exterior back surface, a bottom surface, and left and rights sides, the left and right sides generally defined by respective left and right planar perimeters;

the passenger seat further comprising first complementary locking elements engageable with the two locking points positioned toward the first end of the base, and second complementary locking elements engageable with the two locking points positioned toward the second end of the base, the first complementary locking elements are positioned within the respective left and right planar perimeters of the passenger seat and are movable to extend and retract in a direction that is orthogonal to the left and right planar perimeters.

12. The locking system of claim 11 , further comprising an actuator positioned at a head end of the exterior back surface of the passenger seat to control the engagement between the locking elements of the passenger seat and the locking points of the base.

13. The locking system of claim 11 , further comprising an actuator positioned at a head end of the exterior back surface of the passenger seat to control the engagement between the first complementary locking elements of the passenger seat and the two locking points positioned toward the first end of the base.

14. A carseat system comprising:

a base comprising an upper surface dimensioned to receive a child seat and a lower surface dimensioned to rest upon a vehicle seat, left and right sides, and first and second ends;

a child seat comprising a seating surface, an exterior surface, and left and right sides;

four locking points to removably engage the child seat to the base comprising a first pair of locking points positioned toward the first end of the base and a second pair of locking points positioned toward the second end of the base, the first pair of locking points comprise:

left and right securing members connected to the child seat and extendable in a direction perpendicular to the respective left and right sides of the child seat; and

slots defined in the upper surface of the base that are dimensioned to engage the left and right securing members; and

an actuator control to release the engagement between the child seat and the base.
