Abstract

A display device with integrated touch screen is provided. The display device includes a panel configured to include a plurality of electrodes and to be division-driven in a display driving mode and a touch driving mode during one frame period, a display driver IC configured to apply a common voltage to the plurality of electrodes during the display driving mode, and an ROIC configured to apply, to the plurality of electrodes, a touch scan signal for sensing a touch when the touch driving mode is a first touch driving mode, and apply, to the plurality of electrodes, a touch scan signal for detecting a touch input position when the touch driving mode is a second touch driving mode.

Claims (42)

1. A display device with integrated touch screen, the display device comprising:

a panel configured to include a plurality of electrodes, wherein the panel is division-driven in a display driving mode and a touch driving mode during one frame period including at least a first display period, a second display period, a first non-display period, and a second non-display period;

a display driver IC configured to apply a common voltage to the plurality of electrodes during the first and second display periods of said one frame period in the display driving mode, data voltages being applied to pixels of the panel during the first and the second display periods of said one frame period and not being applied to the pixels of the panel during the first and second non-display periods of said one frame period; and

an ROIC configured to apply, to the plurality of electrodes, a touch scan signal for a first duration in the first non-display period of said one frame period but not apply the touch scan signal to the plurality of electrodes during the second non-display period of said one frame period when the touch driving mode is a first touch driving mode, and apply, to the plurality of electrodes, the touch scan signal for a second duration in both the first and the second non-display periods when the touch driving mode is a second touch driving mode,

wherein the first touch driving mode is an idle driving mode, and the second touch driving mode is an active driving mode, and

wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.

2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the first touch driving mode, the ROIC is turned on during the first non-display period of said one frame period but turned off during the second non-display period of said one frame period.

The display device of claim 1 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the second touch driving mode, the ROIC is turned off during the display driving mode in the one frame period but turned on during both the first non-display period and the second non-display period of said one frame period.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the display driving mode and the second touch driving mode are alternately division-driven during the one frame period.

The display device of claim 1 , wherein the ROIC receives, from the plurality of electrodes, a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for sensing the touch and a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for detecting the touch input position, and determines whether the panel is touched or detects the touch input position.

6. The display device of claim 1 , wherein:

in the first touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period; and

in the second touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period and also applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the second non-display period.

7. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of signal lines,

wherein the common voltage is transferred to the plurality of electrodes through the plurality of signal lines during the first and second display periods of said one frame period in the display driving mode, and

wherein the plurality of signal lines allow the touch scan signal to be transferred to the plurality of electrodes during the first duration and the second duration.

8. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of signal lines,

wherein the plurality of signal lines are disposed in an area of a thin film transistor (TFT) substrate of the panel corresponding to an area of a black matrix which is provided on a color filter (C/F) substrate of the panel.

A driver circuit for driving a display device with integrated touch screen, the display device comprising: a panel including a plurality of electrodes, wherein the panel is division-driven in a display driving mode and a touch driving mode during one frame period including at least a first display period, a second display period, a first non-display period, and a second non-display period, the driver circuit comprising:

a display driver circuit to apply a common voltage to the plurality of electrodes during the first and second display periods of said one frame period in the display driving mode, data voltages being applied to pixels of the panel during the first and the second display periods of said one frame period and not being applied to the pixels of the panel during the first and second non-display periods of said one frame period,

a touch driver circuit to apply, to the plurality of electrodes, a touch scan signal for a first duration in the first non-display period of said one frame period but not apply the touch scan signal to the plurality of electrodes during the second non-display period of said one frame period when the touch driving mode is a first touch driving mode, and apply, to the plurality of electrodes, the touch scan signal for a second duration in both the first and the second non-display periods when the touch driving mode is a second touch driving mode, wherein the first touch driving mode is an idle driving mode, and the second touch driving mode is an active driving mode,

wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.

10. The driver circuit of claim 9 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the first touch driving mode, the touch driver circuit is turned on during the first non-display period of said one frame period but turned off during the second non-display period of said one frame period.

The driver circuit of claim 9 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the second touch driving mode, the touch driver circuit is turned off during the display driving mode in the one frame period but turned on during both the first non-display period and the second non-display period of said one frame period.

12. The driver circuit of claim 9 , wherein the display driving mode and the second touch driving mode are alternately division-driven during the one frame period.

The driver circuit of claim 9 , wherein the touch driver circuit receives, from the plurality of electrodes, a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for sensing the touch and a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for detecting the touch input position, and determines whether the panel is touched or detects the touch input position.

14. The driver circuit of claim 9 , wherein:

in the first touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period; and

in the second touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period and also applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the second non-display period.

A method for driving a display device with integrated touch screen, the display device comprising: a panel including a plurality of electrodes, wherein the panel is division-driven in a display driving mode and a touch driving mode during one frame period including at least a first display period, a second display period, a first non-display period, and a second non-display period, the method comprising:

applying a common voltage to the plurality of electrodes during the first and second display periods of said one frame period in the display driving mode, data voltages being applied to pixels of the panel during the first and the second display periods of said one frame period and not being applied to the pixels of the panel during the first and second non-display periods of said one frame period;

applying, to the plurality of electrodes, a touch scan signal for a first duration in the first non-display period of said one frame period but not applying the touch scan signal to the plurality of electrodes during the second non-display period of said one frame period when the touch driving mode is a first touch driving mode; and

applying, to the plurality of electrodes, the touch scan signal for a second duration in both the first and the second non-display periods when the touch driving mode is a second touch driving mode,

wherein the first touch driving mode is an idle driving mode, and the second touch driving mode is an active driving mode,

wherein the first duration is shorter than the second duration.

The method of claim 15 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the first touch driving mode, a touch driver circuit for applying the touch scan signal to the electrodes is turned on during the first non-display period of said one frame period but turned off during the second non-display period of said one frame period.

The method of claim 15 , wherein, when the touch driving mode is the second touch driving mode, a touch driver circuit for applying the touch scan signal to the electrodes is turned off during the display driving mode in the one frame period but turned on during both the first non-display period and the second non-display period of said one frame period.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the display driving mode and the second touch driving mode are alternately division-driven during the one frame period.

The method of claim 15 , further comprising receiving, from the plurality of electrodes, a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for sensing the touch and a feedback signal based on the touch scan signal for detecting the touch input position, and determining whether the panel is touched or the touch input position.

20. The method of claim 15 , wherein:

in the first touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period but the touch scan signal is not applied to any of the plurality of electrodes during the second non-display period; and

in the second touch driving mode, the touch scan signal is applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the first non-display period and also applied to all of the plurality of electrodes to sense the touch during the second non-display period.
