Abstract

A light emitting device package including light emitting devices, and optical lenses respectively disposed over the light emitting devices. Further, a respective optical lens includes an extending member extending from a body of the respective optical lens, and including a first portion laterally extending in a first direction substantially perpendicular to the central axis of the respective light emitting device, and a second portion extending towards the substrate in a second direction substantially parallel with the central axis of the respective light emitting device. A vertical cross section of the second portion is substantially symmetrical with respect to an axis that is spaced apart in the first direction from and substantially parallel with the central axis of the respective light emitting device.

Claims (134)

1. A light emitting device package, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate; and

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective optical lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

2. The light emitting device package of claim 1 , wherein the respective optical lens is symmetrical with the central axis of the respective light emitting device.

3. The light emitting device package of claim 1 , wherein a total width of the first and third recessed portions of the body is greater than a width of the respective light emitting device.

4. The light emitting device package of claim 1 , wherein the respective optical lens is disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices.

5. The light emitting device package of claim 1 , wherein the central axis of the respective light emitting device substantially aligns with a central axis of the first recessed portion.

6. A light unit, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate;

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices; and

a diffusion plate disposed above the plurality of respective optical lens,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective optical lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

7. The light unit of claim 6 , wherein the diffusion plate is spaced apart from the plurality of optical lenses.

8. The light unit of claim 6 , wherein the central axis of the respective light emitting device substantially aligns with a central axis of the first recessed portion.

9. The light unit of claim 6 , wherein the respective optical lens is disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices.

10. A display, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate;

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices;

a diffusion plate disposed above the plurality of optical lens; and

a display panel disposed above the diffusion plate,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective optical lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

11. The display of claim 10 , wherein the central axis of the respective light emitting device substantially aligns with a central axis of the first recessed portion.

12. The display of claim 10 , wherein the respective optical lens is disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices.

13. The light emitting device package of claim 1 ,

wherein the first recessed portion is disposed at a center of the top surface of the body.

14. The light unit of claim 6 ,

wherein the first recessed portion is disposed at a center of a top surface of the body.

15. The display of claim 10 ,

wherein the first recessed portion is disposed at a center of a top surface of the body.

16. An optical lens comprising a body and disposed over a light emitting device, the light emitting device being disposed on a substrate, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward the light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate; and

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape,

wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape,

wherein a hollow portion is delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion, and

wherein the optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap.

17. A light emitting device package, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate; and

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

18. The light emitting device package of claim 17 , wherein the respectively optical lens has a shape configured to emit laterally light from the round convex surface of the body, when light is emitted from the respective light emitting device at from 80 degrees to 90 degrees with respect to the central axis of the respective light emitting device.

19. A light unit, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate;

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices; and

a diffusion plate disposed above the plurality of optical lens,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective optical lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

20. The light unit of claim 19 , wherein the respective optical lens has a shape configured to emit laterally light from the round convex surface of the body, when light is emitted from the respective light emitting device at from 80 degrees to 90 degrees with respect to the central axis of the respective light emitting device.

21. A display, comprising:

a plurality of light emitting devices on a substrate;

a plurality of optical lenses disposed over the plurality of light emitting devices;

a diffusion plate disposed above the plurality of optical lens; and

a display panel disposed above the diffusion plate,

wherein a respective optical lens has a shape of a bulging cap, the respective optical lens comprising:

a body, the body comprising:

a plurality of recessed portions comprising:

a first recessed portion inwardly recessed toward a respective light emitting device;

a second recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion; and

a third recessed portion spaced apart from the first recessed portion and being symmetrical with the second recessed portion with respect to a central axis of the respective light emitting device;

a first bottom surface disposed below the first recessed portion;

a second bottom surface disposed below the second recessed portion;

a third bottom surface disposed below the third recessed portion;

a fourth bottom surface disposed between the second bottom surface and the substrate;

a fifth bottom surface disposed between the third bottom surface and the substrate;

a rounded convex surface disposed around the first to third recessed portions, the rounded convex surface over each of the fourth and fifth bottom surfaces being a curved shape, wherein each of the first to third recessed portions and the first to fifth bottom surfaces is a curved shape; and

a hollow portion delimited by the first to fifth bottom surfaces, the respective light emitting device being disposed into or under the hollow portion.

22. The display of claim 21 , wherein the respective optical lens has a shape configured to emit laterally light from the round convex surface of the body, when light is emitted from the respective light emitting device at from 80 degrees to 90 degrees with respect to the central axis of the respective light emitting device.
