Abstract

This application discloses a computing system implementing one or more tools or mechanism configured to integrate different design stages, phases, or levels of abstraction by relating objects based on one or more of their characteristics, such as physical or electrical attributes, properties, references, or the like. The tools or mechanism can generate tags corresponding to characteristics of objects in one or more designs representing at least a portion of an electronic system. The tools or mechanism can link the objects in the one or more designs based, at least in part, on tags, and, in response to receiving a selection corresponding to a portion of the one or more designs, present information corresponding to at least another portion in the one or more designs associated with the selected portion based, at least in part, on the linked objects.

Claims (46)

1 . A method comprising:

generating, by a computing system, tags corresponding to characteristics of objects in multiple designs of an electronic system;

relating, by the computing system, the objects in the multiple designs based, at least in part, on the tags;

comparing, by the computing system, the related objects between the multiple designs;

generating, by the computing system, one or more deltas that identify differences between the multiple designs based on the comparison.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein relating the objects in the multiple designs further comprises:

querying, by the computing system, the tags in a tag index to identify which of the objects are related based on the tags; and

linking, by the computing system, objects that are related by one or more characteristics based on the when the query of the tags.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein comparing the related objects between the multiple designs further comprises selectively determining which characteristics to utilize in the comparison of the related objects.

4 . The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining, by the computing system, whether the multiple designs are equivalent to each other based on the comparison; and

generating, by the computing system, a report that identifies the multiple designs as equivalent to each other based on this determination.

5 . The method of claim 1 further comprising, when the comparison of the related objects identifies one or more objects not having a match to another object, generating, by the computing system, the delta to identify a difference between that related objects.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the multiple designs, each representing at least a portion of the electronic system at a different level of abstraction, and wherein comparing the related objects between the multiple designs further comprises linking the multiple designs across levels of abstraction based on the tags.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic system is a wiring harness.

8 . A system comprising:

a memory system configured to store computer-executable instructions; and

a computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, is configured to:

generate tags corresponding to characteristics of objects in multiple designs of an electronic system;

relate the objects in the multiple designs based, at least in part, on the tags;

compare the related objects between the multiple designs; and

generate one or more deltas that identify differences between the multiple designs based on the comparison.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, is further configured to:

query the tags in a tag index to identify which of the objects are related based on the tags; and

link objects that are related by one or more characteristics based on the when the query of the tags.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, is further configured to selectively determine which characteristics to utilize in the comparison of the related objects based on input from a user interface.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, is further configured to:

determine whether the multiple designs are equivalent to each other based on the comparison; and

generate a report that identifies the multiple designs as equivalent to each other based on this determination.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the computing system, in response to execution of the computer-executable instructions, is further configured to generate the delta to identify a difference between that related objects when the comparison of the related objects identifies one or more objects not having a match to another object.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the multiple designs, each representing at least a portion of the electronic system at a different level of abstraction, and wherein comparing the related objects between the multiple designs further comprises linking the multiple designs across levels of abstraction based on the tags.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the electronic system is a wiring harness.

15 . An apparatus comprising at least one computer-readable memory device storing instructions configured to cause one or more processing devices to perform operations comprising:

generating tags corresponding to characteristics of objects in multiple designs of an electronic system;

relating the objects in the multiple designs based, at least in part, on the tags;

comparing the related objects between the multiple designs; and

generating one or more deltas that identify differences between the multiple designs based on the comparison.

16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause one or more processing devices to perform operations further comprising:

querying the tags in a tag index to identify which of the objects are related based on the tags; and

linking objects that are related by one or more characteristics based on the when the query of the tags.

17 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause one or more processing devices to perform operations further comprising selectively determining which characteristics to utilize in the comparison of the related objects based on input from a user interface.

18 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause one or more processing devices to perform operations further comprising:

determining whether the multiple designs are equivalent to each other based on the comparison; and

generating a report that identifies the multiple designs as equivalent to each other based on this determination.

19 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are configured to cause one or more processing devices to perform operations further comprising generating the delta to identify a difference between that related objects when the comparison of the related objects identifies one or more objects not having a match to another object.

20 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the electronic system is a wiring harness.
