Abstract

Customers of shared resources in a multi-tenant environment can modify operational parameters of electronic resources. A customer can be provisioned a data volume of a specified size, storage type (e.g., hard disk drive or solid state device), committed rate of input/output operations per second, and/or geographical location, for example. The customer can subsequently modify any such operational parameters by submitting an appropriate request, or the operational parameters can be adjusted automatically based on any of a number of criteria. Data volumes for the customer can be migrated, split, or combined in order to provide the shared resources in accordance with the modified operational parameters.

Claims (7)

1 . A computer-implemented method of managing shared resources, comprising:

under control of one or more computer systems configured with executable instructions,

obtaining a request to modify at least one parameter of a data storage instance, the data storage instance associated with at least an original copy and a mirror copy;

determining at least one first resource for providing the modified data storage instance operating at least in part according to the at least one modified parameter;

identifying at least a portion of the at least one first resource to be provisioned as the modified data storage instance, the modified data storage instance to operate based at least in part upon the at least one modified parameter;

obtaining data for the modified data storage instance; and

configuring the modified data storage instance to be the primary data storage instance.
