Abstract

A clasp or clamp secures a string or rope, such as made from stretch wrap, to an object such as in securing an object to a pallet for shipping. The clasp or clamping device readily secures one end of the string and allows for tightening of the string through pulling a second end of the string through a second portion of the clasp or clamping device. The second end of the string can be tied off or secured on the second portion of the clasp or claiming device.

Claims (37)

1. An apparatus for using string created from stretch film to secure shipping materials, the apparatus comprising:

a longitudinal body having a first end and a second end opposite to the first end,

wherein the longitudinal body includes a first portion that defines at the first end a first aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the first aperture curving inwardly away from the first end and toward the second end,

wherein the longitudinal body includes a second portion, separate and distal from the first portion, that defines at the second end a second aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the second aperture curving inwardly away from the second end and toward the first end;

a protrusion extending outward from an outer surface of a distal end of the longitudinal body at the first portion and terminating in a point, the protrusion shaped to engage a portion of the string to impede slippage of the string into the first aperture.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the protrusion defines a first sloped surface facing in a direction of the first aperture.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the longitudinal body further defines a middle aperture between the first aperture and the second aperture.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the middle aperture is defined in part by opposing fingers having hooks extending toward each other from the opposing fingers.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first aperture is defined in part by a first finger having a hook extending toward the inner portion of the first aperture from the first finger.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second aperture is defined in part by a second finger having a hook extending toward the inner portion of the second aperture from the second finger.

7. An apparatus for using string created from stretch film to secure shipping materials, the apparatus comprising:

a longitudinal body having a first end and a second end opposite to the first end,

wherein the longitudinal body includes a first portion that defines at the first end a first aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the first aperture curving inwardly away from the first end and toward the second end,

wherein the longitudinal body includes a second portion, separate and distal from the first portion, that defines at the second end a second aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the second aperture curving inwardly away from the second end and toward the first end;

wherein the first aperture is defined in part by a first finger having a hook extending toward the inner portion of the first aperture from the first finger; and

a protrusion extending outward from an outer surface of a distal end of the longitudinal body and terminating in a point, the protrusion shaped to engage a portion of the string to impede slippage of the string.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the second aperture is defined in part by a second finger having a hook extending toward the inner portion of the second aperture from the second finger.

9. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the longitudinal body further defines a middle aperture between the first aperture and the second aperture.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the middle aperture is defined in part by opposing fingers having hooks extending toward each other from the opposing fingers.

11. A method for securing an object, the method comprising:

securing a first end of a string by a first end of a longitudinal body; and

securing a second end of the string by a second end of the longitudinal body;

wherein the first end of the longitudinal body is opposite to the second end of the longitudinal body;

wherein the longitudinal body includes a first portion that defines at the first end a first aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the first aperture curving inwardly away from the first end and toward the second end;

wherein the longitudinal body includes a second portion, separate and distal from the first portion, that defines at the second end a second aperture having a curved section on an inner portion of the second aperture curving inwardly away from the second end and toward the first end; and

wherein the securing the first end of the string by the first end of the longitudinal body further comprises engaging the string with a protrusion extending from a distal end of the longitudinal body at the first portion and terminating in a point, the protrusion shaped to engage a portion of the string to impede slippage of the string into the first aperture.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the securing the second end of the string by the second end of the longitudinal body further comprises engaging the stretch film with a protrusion extending from a distal end of the longitudinal body at the second portion and shaped to engage a portion of the string to impede slippage of the string into the second aperture.

13. The method of claim 11 wherein the securing the first end of the string by the first end of the longitudinal body further comprises:

passing a first string portion of the string first through the first aperture;

wrapping a second string portion of the string around one of at least two bends that at least partially define the first aperture;

passing the string a spacing between two of the at least two bends.

14. The method of claim 13 wherein the securing the first end of the string by the first end of the longitudinal body further comprises securing the string between the two of the at least two bends through tension applied on the first string portion and the second string portion, which tension pulls the two of the at least two bends together to clasp the string.

15. The method of claim 11 wherein the securing the second end of the string by the second end of the longitudinal body further comprises:

passing a first string portion of the string first through the second aperture;

wrapping a second string portion of the string around one of at least two bends that at least partially define the second aperture;

passing the string a spacing between two of the at least two bends.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the securing the second end of the string by the second end of the longitudinal body further comprises securing the string between the two of the at least two bends through tension applied on the first string portion and the second string portion, which tension pulls the two of the at least two bends together to clasp the string.
