Abstract

Disclosed herein is a system for recovering flash gas from an oil storage tank. In one example of the invention, the system may include a flexible storage tank that receives the flash gas and temporarily stores the flash gas; a compressor having an input receiving the flash gas from the flexible storage tank, the compressor compressing the flash gas to form compressed gas; and an oxygen reduction subsystem receiving the compressed gas, the oxygen reduction subsystem reducing an amount of oxygen from the compressed gas. In this manner, the resulting compressed oxygen-reduced gas that has been recovered can be injected into a sales gas line for use, under certain conditions.

Claims (10)

1. A system for recovering flash gas from an oil storage tank, comprising: a compressor having an input in fluid communication with the oil storage tank to receive one or more portions of the flash gas, the compressor compressing the flash gas to form compressed gas; an oxygen reduction subsystem receiving the compressed gas, the oxygen reduction subsystem reducing an amount of oxygen from the compressed gas; and a controller having one or more inputs relating to the compressor and having one or more inputs relating to the oxygen reduction system, wherein the controller monitors the operation of the compressor and the oxygen reduction system.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller has one or more outputs to control the operation of the compressor.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the oxygen reduction subsystem further comprises:

a vessel having an input and an output, the input receiving the compressed gas, wherein the vessel contains at least one oxygen reducing catalyst that reduces the oxygen content of the compressed gas.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the vessel contains a first section and a second section adapted to receive the compressed gas as it passes through the first section and second sections in sequence, the first section housing a material to remove sulfur from the compressed gas.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the material to remove sulfur includes zinc oxide.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the second section includes the at least one oxygen reducing catalyst.

7. The system of claim 3 , wherein the at least one oxygen reducing catalyst includes palladium.

8. The system of claim 3 , further comprising:

a heat exchanger coupled with the output of the vessel, the heat exchanger cooling the heated compressed gas to form cooled compressed gas.
