Abstract

This document describes techniques for processing graphics in wagering game systems. Some embodiments of the inventive subject matter use stereoscopic 3-D graphics and 2-D graphics to present composite images including multiple views of a virtual 3-D wagering game environment. Such embodiments present the composite images on stereoscopic 3-D devices.

Claims (42)

1. A method for presenting wagering game graphics on a stereoscopic three-dimensional (3-D) display, the method comprising:

generating, via a graphics unit, a first 3-D wagering game space including first objects, and a second 3-D wagering game space including second objects;

identifying, via the graphics unit, a region of the second 3-D wagering game space in which at least one of the second objects is labeled as a transparent object;

rendering, to a graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a two-dimensional (2-D) image of the second 3-D game space, wherein the region appears in the 2-D image, and wherein the 2-D image omits the transparent object; and

rendering, to the graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a stereoscopic 3-D image in the region appearing in the 2-D image, wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes at least one of the first objects.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

presenting the graphics buffer on the stereoscopic 3-D display.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the first objects and second objects indicate results for a wagering game.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying comprises:

capturing, via a first virtual camera, a first virtual image of the second 3-D wagering game space, wherein the first virtual image includes the region; and

wherein the 2-D image includes the first virtual image.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

capturing, via second and third virtual cameras, second and third virtual images of the first 3-D wagering game space, wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes the second and third virtual images.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first objects and second objects represent game pieces used in a wagering game.

7. A method for presenting wagering game graphics on a stereoscopic three-dimensional (3-D) display, the method comprising:

generating, via a graphics unit, at least one 3-D wagering game space including virtual objects;

determining, via the graphics unit, a region in the 3-D wagering game space including a first group of the virtual objects;

labeling one virtual object of the first group of virtual objects in the region as a transparent object;

rendering, to a graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a two-dimensional (2-D) image of the 3-D wagering game space, wherein the 2-D image shows the region, and wherein the 2-D image omits the transparent object in the region; and

rendering, to the graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a stereoscopic 3-D image in the region shown in the 2-D image, wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes a second group of the virtual objects.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

presenting the graphics buffer on the stereoscopic 3-D display.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein one or more of the virtual objects indicate results for a wagering game.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein the determining comprises:

capturing, via a first virtual camera, a first virtual image of the 3-D wagering game space, wherein the first virtual image includes the region.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

capturing, via second and third virtual cameras, second and third virtual images of the 3-D wagering game space, wherein the second and third virtual objects include the second group of virtual objects, and wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes the second and third virtual images.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein the virtual objects represent game pieces used in a wagering game.

13. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media including instructions that, when executed by a computer perform operations for presenting wagering game graphics on a stereoscopic three-dimensional (3-D) display, the instructions comprising:

instructions to generate, via a graphics unit, a first 3-D wagering game space including first objects, and a second 3-D wagering game space including second objects;

instructions to identify, via the graphics unit, a region of the second 3-D wagering game space in which at least one of the second objects is labeled as transparent;

instructions to render, to a graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a two-dimensional (2-D) image of the second 3-D game space, wherein the 2-D image omits the transparent object in the region; and

instructions to render, to the graphics buffer of the graphics unit, a stereoscopic 3-D image in the region, wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes at least one of the first objects.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 further comprising:

instructions to present the graphics buffer on the stereoscopic 3-D display.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein one or more of the first objects and second objects indicate results for a wagering game.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the instructions to identifying comprise:

instructions to capture, via a first virtual camera, a first virtual image of the second 3-D wagering game space, wherein the first virtual image includes the region; and

wherein the 2-D image includes the first virtual image.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , further comprising:

capturing, via second and third virtual cameras, second and third virtual images of the first 3-D wagering game space, wherein the stereoscopic 3-D image includes the second and third virtual images.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the virtual objects represent game pieces used in a wagering game.
