Abstract

A retractable storage system for handheld electronic device has a plug head actuation system to operably connect or disconnect the plug head and one or more storage chambers to house a retraction mechanism and/or a battery. At least one accessory station structured on the housing member of the device has an aperture for arresting, dispensing and/or charging at least one accessory item, such as a wireless earbud or e-cigarette. The retraction mechanism retrieves and dispense the stored accessory item through the accessory station.

Claims (49)

1. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member;

at least one accessory station;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece; and

a plug head actuation system comprising a mechanical switch component operably connected to the plug head to disconnect an electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable and a port of the handheld electronic device; and

wherein the mechanical switch component translates a force applied thereto by a user simultaneously and directly into a force applied on the plug head, thereby enabling the user to control the force applied to plug head to disconnect the plug head from the port of the handheld electronic device.

The retractable storage system of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical switch component is configured to lock the plug head in a storage position with the electrical signal disconnected between the plug head and the port while the plug head remains substantially confined within the port of the handheld electronic device.

3. The retractable storage system of claim 2 , further comprising one or more storage chambers.

4. The retractable storage system of claim 3 , further comprising at least one retractable mechanism mounted inside one of the storage chambers to retract and store said at least one cable.

The retractable storage system of claim 4 , wherein said mechanical switch component further comprises a projecting member protruding through an aperture of the protective housing member to control and operate the plug head actuation system; and wherein the projecting member is a distinct component configured to move relative to the plug head allowing a remote operation of the plug head actuation system through the aperture while the plug head remains enclosed within the protective housing member throughout a plug head actuation cycle and storage of the plug head.

6. The retractable storage system of claim 5 , wherein the end piece is at least one of the following accessory items: an earbud, earphone, headphone or audio plug.

7. The retractable storage system of claim 4 , further comprising at least one battery mounted inside one of the storage chambers to charge the handheld electronic device.

The retractable storage system of claim 1 , wherein the plug head actuation system comprises first and second positions, the plug head is electrically connected the port of the handheld electronic device in the first position and the plug head is stored and electrically disconnected from the port of the handheld electronic device in the second position, the plug head remains substantially confined within the port of the handheld electronic device while in the first and second positions and while transitioning between the first and second positions.

9. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member;

at least one accessory station;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece; and

a plug head actuation system comprising an actuation component configured to either pivot, turn or swivel the plug head to connect or disconnect the plug head into a port of the handheld electronic device, the plug head travels linearly in or out of the port of the handheld electronic device directly in response to an angular motion of the actuation component to connect or disconnect an electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable and the port of the handheld electronic device.

10. The retractable storage system of claim 9 , wherein the actuation component comprises at least one of the following: a cylindrical wedge or a pivotable wedge to raise the plug head from or o lower the plug head into the port of the handheld electronic device.

11. The retractable storage system of claim 10 , further comprising one or more storage chambers.

12. The retractable storage system of claim 11 , further comprising at least one retractable mechanism mounted inside one of the storage chambers to retract and store said at least one cable.

The retractable storage system of claim 10 , wherein the actuation component further comprises a projecting member protruding through an aperture of the protective housing member to control and operate the plug head actuation system; and wherein the mechanical switch component is a distinct component configured to move relative to the plug head allowing a remote operation of the plug head actuation system through the aperture while the plug head remains enclosed within said protective housing member throughout a plug head actuation cycle.

14. The retractable storage system of claim 13 , wherein the end piece is at least one of the following accessory items: an earbud, earphone, headphone or audio plug.

15. The retractable storage system of claim 12 , further comprising at least one battery mounted inside one of the storage chambers to charge the handheld electronic device.

16. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member;

at least one accessory station;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece; and

a plug head actuation system comprising a lever to operably connect or disconnect an electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable and a port of the handheld electronic device, the lever is operable using a single vector push force to lift or lower the plug head from the port of the handheld electronic device to connect or disconnect the electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable and the port of the handheld electronic device.

17. The retractable storage system of claim 16 , further comprising one or more storage chambers.

18. The retractable storage system of claim 17 , further comprising at least one retractable mechanism mounted inside one of the storage chambers to retract and store said at least one cable.

19. The retractable storage system of claim 16 , wherein the lever is configured to allow a remote operation of the plug head through a force applied parallel with a motion of the plug head.

The retractable storage system of claim 16 , wherein the lever comprises a projecting member protruding through an aperture of the protective housing member to control and operate the plug head actuation system, the lever is operable such that the plug head remains enclosed within the protective housing member throughout a plug head actuation cycle.

21. The retractable storage system of claim 18 , wherein the end piece is at least one of the following accessory items: an earbud, earphone, headphone or audio plug.

22. The retractable storage system of claim 17 , further comprising at least one battery mounted inside one of the storage chambers to charge the handheld electronic device.

23. The retractable storage system of claim 21 , further comprising a retraction button to control said at least one retractable mechanism.

24. The retractable storage system of claim 16 , wherein the lever has a pivot point and is configured to use leverage to drive the plug head in or out of the port of the handheld electronic device.

25. A retractable storage system for a handheld electronic device, comprising:

a protective housing member;

at least one cable with a plug head and an end piece; and

a plug head actuation system comprising an actuation component configured to operably disconnect an electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable and the port of the handheld electronic device, the actuation component translates a force applied thereto by a user to directly drive the plug head outward and lift the plug head from the port of the handheld electronic device to disconnect the electrical signal between the plug head of said at least one cable arid, the t of the handheld electronic device.

The retractable storage system of claim 25 , wherein the actuation component is configured to lock the plug head in a storage position with the electrical signal disconnected between the plug head and the port while the plug head remains substantially confined within the port of the handheld electronic device.

27. The retractable storage system of claim 25 , further comprising one or more storage chambers.

28. The retractable storage system of claim 27 , further comprising at least one retractable mechanism mounted inside one of the storage chambers to retract and store said at least one cable.

29. The retractable storage system of claim 28 , further comprising at least one accessory station.

The retractable storage system of claim 25 , wherein the actuation component further comprises a projecting member protruding through an aperture of the protective housing member to control and operate the plug head actuation system; and wherein the actuation component is a distinct component configured to move relative to the plug head allowing a remote operation of the plug head actuation system through the aperture while the plug head remains enclosed within the protective housing member throughout a plug head actuation cycle.

31. The retractable storage system of claim 30 , wherein the end piece is at least one of the following accessory items: an earbud, earphone, headphone or audio plug.

32. The retractable storage system of claim 29 , further comprising at least one battery mounted inside one of the storage chambers to charge the handheld electronic device.

The retractable storage system of claim 25 , wherein the plug head actuation system comprises first and second positions, the plug head is electrically connected the port of the handheld electronic device in the first position and the plug head is stored and electrically disconnected from the port of the handheld electronic device in the second position, the plug head remains substantially confined within the port of the handheld electronic device while in the first and second positions and while transitioning between the first and second positions.
