Abstract

A vascular remodeling device has a plurality of sections, sized for deployment in a blood vessel, that is radially expandable from a collapsed state to an expanded state. Each section has a plurality of interconnected struts that define a waist, a proximal face, and a distal face. Each face comprises (i) a plurality of distal strut portions extending proximally from a distal side of the face, (ii) a plurality of proximal strut portions extending distally from a proximal side of the face, and (iii) a plurality of sub-struts, wherein, from each proximal strut portion, two of the sub-struts each extend to a different one of the distal strut portions.

Claims (24)

1. A vascular device, comprising:

first and second sections, each section being radially expandable from a collapsed state to an expanded state, each section having a waist comprising a radially largest region of the section when in the expanded state, each section terminating proximally in a proximal junction and terminating distally in a distal junction, the first and second sections being coupled together such that the first section can pivot independently of the second section,

wherein each section consists of:

(i) a plurality of first proximal strut portions extending distally away from a portion of uncut tube at the proximal junction,

(ii) a plurality of first distal strut portions,

(iii) a plurality of first sub-struts having first and second ends, wherein every one of the first proximal strut portions, extending distally from the proximal junction, divides into the first ends of two of said plurality of first sub-struts, with the second ends of those two of said plurality of first sub-struts extending and connecting, respectively, to two different first distal strut portions,

(iv) a plurality of second distal strut portions extending proximally from a portion of uncut tube at the distal junction,

(v) a plurality of second proximal strut portions each connected to one of the first distal strut portions at the waist and extending distally from the waist, and

(vi) a plurality of second sub-struts having first and second ends, wherein every one of the second proximal strut portions, extending distally from the waist, divides into the first ends of two of said plurality of second sub-struts, with the second ends of those two of said plurality of second sub-struts extending and connecting, respectively, to two different second distal strut portions,

wherein, while each section is in its expanded state, the first distal strut portions and the second proximal strut portions are curved and connect to the waist to form a curving radial crest at the waist.

2. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein the first proximal strut portions are equal in number to the first distal strut portions.

3. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein there are twice as many first sub-struts of the device as first distal strut portions of the device.

4. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein the second proximal strut portions are equal in number to the second distal strut portions.

5. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein there are twice as many second sub-struts of the device as second distal strut portions of the device.

6. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein each of the first sub-struts extends between a first proximal strut portion and a first distal strut portion that are angularly offset with respect to each other.

7. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein each of the second sub-struts extends between a second proximal strut portion and a second distal strut portion that are angularly offset with respect to each other.

8. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein the first proximal strut portions, the first sub-struts, and the first distal strut portions form a monolithic structure.

9. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein the second proximal strut portions, the second sub-struts, and the second distal strut portions form a monolithic structure.

10. The vascular device of claim 1 , further comprising a wire tethered to the first and second sections.

11. The vascular device of claim 10 , wherein the wire is tethered to a proximalmost one of the first and second sections.

12. The vascular device of claim 10 , wherein the wire is configured to retract the first and second sections into an outer sheath.

13. The vascular device of claim 10 , wherein a position of the first and second sections can be adjusted via manipulation of the wire.

14. The vascular device of claim 10 , wherein the wire is coupled to the first and second sections by an electrolytic detachment mechanism, a mechanical detachment mechanism, or a chemical detachment mechanism.

15. The vascular device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second sections are joined by a tube, a flexible coil, a ball-and-socket joint, or a flexible wire.
