Abstract

A passively re-radiating cell phone sleeve assembly capable of receiving a nested cell phone provides signal boosting capabilities. Signal boosting is enabled by use of an additional antenna, a pass-through repeater, dual antenna isolation capability and other features.

Claims (35)

1. A cell phone assembly for engaging a cell phone in a nested relationship, the assembly comprising:

(A) an enclosure fitting around at least a portion of the engaged cell phone, said enclosure having a back panel and at least one frontal peripheral lip positioned for holding the engaged cell phone within the assembly;

(B) a planar radio frequency (RF) coupling probe positioned in said back panel for electromagnetic coupling with an internal antenna of the cell phone when the cell phone is in the assembly, said coupling probe having substantially the same size and shape as the internal antenna of the cell phone, and wherein the enclosure holds the cell phone such that the RF coupling probe is substantially adjacent to the internal antenna of the cell phone when the cell phone is in the assembly;

(C) an assembly antenna; and

(D) an embedded electrical circuit within the enclosure, the electrical circuit comprising a signal amplifying circuit connecting said assembly antenna and said coupling probe, said amplifier amplifying signals between the assembly antenna and the coupling probe,

wherein said electrical circuit is configured to conduct a captured electromagnetic signal from the coupling probe to the assembly antenna, wherein conducting the captured electromagnetic signal to the assembly antenna does not include actively amplifying the captured signal.

2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the at least one lip partially covers the engaged cell phone within the assembly.

3. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the at least one lip extends peripherally over a portion of a face of the engaged cell phone within the assembly.

4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the back panel is integral with a surrounding side wall and said at least one frontal peripheral lip.

5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the enclosure fits tightly around at least a portion of the engaged cell phone.

6. The assembly of claim 1 wherein a material of which said enclosure is fabricated is at least partially elastic to be stretched slightly upon receiving a cell phone to be engaged.

7. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the back panel is integral with the at least one peripheral lip.

8. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the coupling probe has a multi-frequency band resonance.

9. The assembly of claim 8 wherein the coupling probe has a multi-frequency band resonance enabling plural frequency band selectivity including at least one of 700, 850, 900, 1800, 1900, and 2100 MHz.

10. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said electromagnetic coupling comprises near field coupling.

11. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said coupling probe has a multilayer planar construction.

12. An assembly for engaging an electronic communication device in a nested relationship, the assembly comprising:

(A) an enclosure fitting around at least a portion of the engaged electronic communication device when the electronic communication device is engaged in the assembly, said enclosure holding the engaged electronic communication device in the assembly;

(B) a planar radio frequency (RF) coupling probe positioned in said enclosure for electromagnetic coupling with an internal antenna of the electronic communication device when the electronic communication device is in the assembly, said coupling probe having substantially the same size and shape as the internal antenna of the electronic communication device, and wherein, when the electronic communication device is engaged in the assembly, the enclosure holds the cell phone such that the RF coupling probe is substantially adjacent to the internal antenna of the electronic communication device, wherein the coupling probe has a multi-frequency band resonance enabling plural frequency band selectivity;

(C) an assembly antenna; and

(D) a signal amplifying antenna circuit connecting said coupling probe to said assembly antenna and amplifying signals between the assembly antenna and the coupling probe,

wherein said antenna circuit is configured to conduct a captured electromagnetic signal from the coupling probe to the assembly antenna, wherein conducting the captured electromagnetic signal to the assembly antenna does not include actively amplifying the captured signal.

13. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the enclosure fits tightly around at least a portion of the electronic communication device when the electronic communication device is engaged in the assembly.

14. The assembly of claim 12 wherein a material of which enclosure is fabricated is at least partially elastic to be stretched slightly upon receiving an electronic communication device to be engaged.

15. The assembly of claim 12 wherein said electromagnetic coupling comprises near field coupling.

16. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the enclosure comprise at least one frontal peripheral lip-positioned for holding the engaged electronic communication device within the assembly.

17. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the coupling probe has a multi-frequency band resonance enabling plural frequency band selectivity including at least one of 700, 850, 900, 1800, 1900, and 2100 MHz.

18. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the coupling probe is positioned in a back panel of the enclosure.

19. The assembly of claim 12 wherein the electronic communication device comprises a cell phone.

20. An assembly for engaging an electronic communication device in a nested relationship, the assembly comprising:

(A) an enclosure fitting around at least a portion of the engaged electronic communication device when the electronic communication device is engaged in the assembly, said enclosure holding the engaged electronic communication device in the assembly, wherein the enclosure fits tightly around at least a portion of the engaged electronic communication device, wherein a material of which said enclosure is fabricated is at least partially elastic to be stretched slightly upon receiving an electronic communication device to be engaged;

(B) a planar radio frequency (RF) coupling probe positioned in said enclosure for electromagnetic coupling with an internal antenna of the electronic communication device when the electronic communication device is in the assembly, said coupling probe having substantially the same size and shape as the internal antenna of the electronic communication device, and wherein, when the electronic communication device is engaged in the assembly, the enclosure holds the cell phone such that the RF coupling probe is substantially adjacent to the internal antenna of the electronic communication device, wherein the coupling probe has a multi-frequency band resonance enabling plural frequency band selectivity;

(C) an assembly antenna; and

(D) circuitry connecting said assembly antenna to said coupling probe, said circuit amplifying signals from the assembly antenna and the coupling probe,

wherein said circuitry is configured to conduct a captured electromagnetic signal from the coupling device to the assembly antenna, wherein the conducting the captured electromagnetic signal to the assembly antenna does not include actively amplifying the captured signal.
