Abstract

Compounds and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts for treatment of tauopathies, such as Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, familial frontotemporal dementia/Parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Parkinsonism-dementia complex, argyrophilic grain dementia, dementia pugilistic, diffuse neurofibrillary tangles with calcification, progressive subcortical gliosis and tangle only dementia.

Claims (8)

1. A compound selected from the group consisting of

2. A method of disrupting or inhibiting the formation, deposition, accumulation, or persistence of tau fibrils and/or aggregates, comprising administering to a mammal having a tauopathy a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of claim 1 .

3. The method of claim 2 , where the compound administered is in an amount between 0.1 mg/Kg/day and 1000 mg/Kg/day.

4. The method of claim 2 , where the compound is administered in an amount between 1 mg/Kg/day and 100 mg/Kg/day.

5. The method of claim 2 , where amount of compound administered is in an amount between 10 mg/Kg/day and 100 mg/Kg/day.

6. A method resulting in neuroprotection from a tauopathy in a mammal suffering therefrom comprising the step of administrating a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1 .

7. The method of claim 6 where the tauopathy is one selected from; Alzheimer's disease, Pick's disease, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, familial frontotemporal dementia/Parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Parkinsonism-dementia complex, argyrophilic grain dementia, dementia pugilistic, diffuse neurofibrillary tangles with calcification, progressive subcortical gliosis and tangle only dementia.

8. An article of manufacture, comprising packaging material, the compound of claim 1 , or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, contained within packaging material, which is used for treating the formation, deposition, accumulation, or persistence of tau fibrils and/or aggregates, and a label that indicates that the compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is used for treating the formation, deposition, accumulation, or persistence of tau fibrils and/or aggregates.
