Abstract

Provided are iminosugars having antibacterial properties and methods of treating and/or preventing bacterial infections with such iminosugars. The present disclosure relates to antibacterial compounds and, in particular, to iminosugars having antibacterial activity. One embodiment is a method of treating or preventing a bacterial infection comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an antibacterial effective amount of a compound of the following formula: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

Claims (5)

1. A method of treating or preventing a bacterial infection comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an antibacterial effective amount of a compound, which is a) N-(9-Methoxynonyl)deoxynojirimycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or b) N—(N-{4′-azido-2′-nitrophenyl}-6-aminohexyl)deoxynojirimycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein said bacterial infection is caused by one or more strains selected from the group consisting of S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis , and Streptococcus pneumonia.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is a human being.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said compound is N-(9-Methoxynonyl)deoxynojirimycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein said compound is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of N-(9-Methoxynonyl)deoxynojirimycin.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said compound is N—(N-{4′-azido-2′-nitrophenyl}-6-aminohexyl)deoxynojirimycin or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
