Abstract

A solution providing for the dynamic design, use, and modification of models using a declarative software application meta-model that provides for self-modification of a collection of the models is provided. The solution can enable continuous real-time testing, simulation, deployment, and modification of the collection of the models. A model in the collection of the models can represent an entity or a function and can be included in a set of related models. Additionally, a set of related models can include a plurality of sets of related models. The collection of the models can represent, for example, one or more software applications, processes, and/or the like.

Claims (41)

1. A computer system comprising:

a processing component; and

a storage component, wherein the storage component includes at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a software application, wherein the software application, when executed by the processing component, enables the computer system to implement an environment for managing models using a declarative application meta-model that provides for self-modification of a collection of the models, wherein the managing includes:

processing design, use, and modification interactions with the collection of models by users in a runtime environment, wherein the processing includes, in response to an interaction request, binding a model of the collection of models in real-time to dynamically construct an implementation of the model in the collection of models,

wherein the dynamically constructed implementation of the model provides a requesting user a set of models of modification controls from the collection of models in response to one of: a design interaction request or a modification interaction request, which requests an ability to make a modification to the model in the collection of models for which a requesting user is authorized, wherein the set of models of modification controls enable the requesting user to make the modification.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the managing enables continuous real-time testing, simulation, deployment, and modification of the collection of the models.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the collection of the models includes at least one set of related models, and wherein each model in a set of related models can configure at least one of a set of properties of the set of related models so that collective properties of the set of related models emerge dynamically from interaction of the set of related models.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the software application includes an intermediary component, wherein the intermediary component:

receives each interaction request;

processes at least one model in the collection of models in response to each interaction request; and

provides at least one implementation of the at least one model for use by the requesting user in response to each interaction request.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the intermediary component includes:

a construction service resource configured to generate the at least one implementation of the at least one model; and

a system controller, wherein the system controller receives each interaction request, causes a representation of the construction service resource to process the interaction request, and provides the at least one implementation of the at least one model for use by the requesting user.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the intermediary component manages a plurality of distinct collections of models using the declarative application meta-model.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the plurality of distinct collections of models defines logic for at least one of: a process or a software application.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the managing includes executing an instance of the at least one of: a process or a software application, and wherein a user can modify a configuration of the at least one of: a process or a software application during the executing.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the set of models of modification controls enables the user to modify at least one of: a configuration of the model for the user or a configuration of the model for use in all subsequent instances of the model.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein a configuration of the set of models of modification controls is modifiable.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein a set of restrictions on configuration of at least one model in the collection of the models are configured using at least one of a set of models in the collection of the models.

12. A computer program product comprising program code stored on at least one tangible computer-readable medium, which when executed, enables a computer system to implement a method of managing models using a declarative application meta-model that provides for self-modification of a collection of the models, wherein the method includes:

receiving requests for design, use, and modification interactions with the collection of models from users in a runtime environment;

processing design, use, and modification interactions with the collection of models, wherein the processing includes, in response to an interaction request, binding a model of the collection of models in real-time to dynamically construct an implementation of the model in the collection of models,

wherein the dynamically constructed implementation of the model provides a requesting user a set of models of modification controls from the collection of models in response to one of: a design interaction request or a modification interaction request, which requests an ability to make a modification to the model in the collection of models for which the requesting user is authorized, wherein the set of models of modification controls enable the requesting user to make the modification.

13. The program product of claim 12 , wherein the managing enables continuous real-time testing, simulation, deployment, and modification of the collection of the models.

14. The program product of claim 12 , wherein the program product includes an intermediary component, wherein the intermediary component:

receives each interaction request;

processes at least one model in the collection of models in response to each interaction request; and

provides at least one implementation of the at least one model for use by the requesting user in response to each interaction request.

15. The program product of claim 14 , wherein the intermediary component includes:

a construction service resource configured to generate the at least one implementation of the at least one model; and

a system controller, wherein the system controller receives each interaction request, causes a representation of the construction service resource to process the interaction request, and provides the at least one implementation of the at least one model for use by the requesting user.

16. The program product of claim 14 , wherein the intermediary component manages a plurality of distinct collections of models using the declarative application meta-model.

17. The program product of claim 16 , wherein at least one of the plurality of distinct collections of models defines logic for at least one of: a process or a software application.

18. The program product of claim 17 , wherein the managing includes executing an instance of the at least one of: a process or a software application, and wherein a user can modify a configuration of the at least one of: a process or a software application during the executing.

19. A computerized method of managing models using a declarative application meta-model that provides for self-modification of a collection of the models, wherein the method includes:

a computer system receiving requests for design, use, and modification interactions with the collection of models from users in a runtime environment; and

the computer system processing design, use, and modification interactions with the collection of models, wherein the processing includes, in response to an interaction request, binding a model of the collection of models in real-time to dynamically construct an implementation of the model in the collection of models,

wherein the dynamically constructed implementation of the model provides a requesting user a set of models of modification controls from the collection of models in response to one of: a design interaction request or a modification interaction request, which requests an ability to make a modification to the model in the collection of models for which the requesting user is authorized, wherein the set of models of modification controls enable the requesting user to make the modification.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the collection of models defines logic for at least one of: a process or a software application.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the managing includes the computer system executing an instance of the at least one of: a process or a software application, and wherein a user can modify a configuration of the at least one of: a process or a software application during the executing.
