Abstract

A hearing device includes: a processing unit configured to compensate for hearing loss of a user of the hearing device; a memory unit; and an interface; wherein the hearing device is configured to: receive an authentication message from a client device via the interface, derive a client device identifier from the authentication message, and store the client device identifier in the memory unit.

Claims (30)

1. A hearing device comprising:

a processing unit configured to compensate for hearing loss of a user of the hearing device;

a memory unit; and

an interface;

wherein the hearing device is configured to:

receive an authentication message from a client device via the interface,

obtain a client device identifier by processing the authentication message, and

store the client device identifier in the memory unit after the client device identifier is obtained;

wherein the authentication message comprises an encrypted certificate; and

wherein the hearing device is configured to obtain the client device identifier by:

decrypting the encrypted certificate to obtain a decrypted version of the encrypted certificate, and

obtaining the client device identifier based on the decrypted version of the encrypted certificate.

2. The hearing device according to claim 1 , wherein the authentication message comprises a client device type identifier, and wherein the memory unit is configured to store the client device type identifier.

3. The hearing device according to claim 1 , wherein the authentication message comprises a user identifier, and wherein the memory unit is configured to store the user identifier.

4. The hearing device according to claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is configured to generate a connection response comprising a session identifier in response to reception of a connection request, and wherein the interface is configured to transmit the connection response.

5. The hearing device according to claim 1 , further comprising a hearing device key.

6. The hearing device according to claim 4 , wherein the hearing device is configured to store the session identifier in the memory unit, wherein the session identifier is linked to the client device identifier in the memory unit.

7. The hearing device according to claim 1 , wherein the hearing device is configured to authenticate the authentication message using a hearing device certificate stored in the memory unit.

8. The hearing device of claim 1 , wherein the client device identifier comprises an identifier that identifies the client device, the client device being different from the hearing device.

9. The hearing device of claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is configured to compensate for the hearing loss based on fitting data.

10. The hearing device of claim 5 , wherein the hearing device key comprises a keying material configured to allow derivation of a symmetric session key.

11. A method of operating a hearing device comprising a processing unit configured to compensate for hearing loss of a user of the hearing device, a memory unit, and an interface, the method comprising:

receiving an authentication message from a client device via the interface;

obtaining a client device identifier by processing the authentication message;

storing the client device identifier in the memory unit of the hearing device after the client device identifier is obtained;

wherein the authentication message comprises an encrypted certificate; and

wherein the act of obtaining the client device identifier by processing the authentication message comprises:

decrypting the encrypted certificate to obtain a decrypted version of the encrypted certificate, and

obtaining the client device identifier based on the decrypted version of the encrypted certificate.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the client device identifier comprises an identifier that identifies the client device, the client device being different from the hearing device.
