Abstract

Simulation systems and methods may enable medical training. A manufacturing unit may receive data from a configuration unit indicating identification and manufacturing parameters for an anatomy model. A data processing unit may receive data from the configuration unit identifying the anatomy model, and data from a calibration unit indicating a position and/or orientation of a position and orientation sensor relative to the anatomy model. The data processing unit may also receive data from the position and orientation sensor indicating a position and/or orientation of the anatomy model. The data processing unit may generate a virtual image using the data from the position and orientation sensor, the data from the calibration unit, and the data from the configuration unit. The data processing unit may render the virtual image to a display.

Claims (40)

1. A simulation system comprising:

a data processing unit;

a display in communication with the data processing unit;

an interchangeable anatomy model having an anatomy model identification;

a position and orientation sensor configured to attach to the interchangeable anatomy model;

a calibration unit configured to store the anatomy model identification and calibration data associated with the position and orientation sensor and the interchangeable anatomy model; wherein

the data processing unit is configured to:

receive the anatomy model identification from the calibration unit;

receive a selection of one of the simulation scenarios from a user;

receive data from the position and orientation sensor indicating the position of the interchangeable anatomy model, the orientation of the interchangeable anatomy model, or a combination thereof;

receive the calibration data from the calibration unit indicating a position of the position and orientation sensor relative to the interchangeable anatomy model, an orientation of the position and orientation sensor relative to the interchangeable anatomy model, or a combination thereof;

generate the VR model or AR model associated with the selected simulation scenario using the data from the position and orientation sensor and the calibration data from the calibration unit; and

render the VR model or AR model to the display.

2. The simulation system of claim 1 , further comprising a manufacturing unit, wherein:

the interchangeable anatomy model comprises an integration site placeholder allowing for attachment of the position and orientation sensor on the interchangeable anatomy model; and

the manufacturing unit is configured to receive the anatomy model identification and manufacture the interchangeable anatomy model with the integration site placeholder.

3. The simulation system of claim 2 , wherein the manufacturing unit is an additive manufacturing unit.

4. The simulation system of claim 2 , wherein the manufacturing unit is a 3D printer.
