BIOOPTICAL AND BIOFUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES, APPLICATIONS AND METHODS OF POLYLACTIC ACID FILMS
Biopolymers that may be used in optical applications are provided. Suitable biopolymers include polylactic acid and polylactic acid blends. The polylactic acid may be used with a photocatalyst such as titonium dioxide in some embodiments. In other embodiments, the polylactic acid may incorporate decorative fused recycled particles. Generally, the biopolymer may be used in applications where optical characteristics and/or fire performance are desired.

16 . A fire safety lighting lens diffuser comprising:
a diffuser comprising polylactic acid,
wherein the diffuser exhibits a lower smoke index than a lens made from acrylic and no polylactic acid.
17 . The fire safety lighting lens diffuser of claim 16 , wherein the polylactic acid diffuser further comprises a natural wax.
18 . The fire safety lighting lens diffuser of claim 16 , wherein the polylactic acid diffuser further comprises a hydrogenated triglyceride additive.
19 . The fire safety lighting lens diffuser of claim 16 , wherein the polylactic acid diffuser is extruded.
20 . The fire safety lighting lens diffuser of claim 16 , wherein the polylactic acid diffuser is embossed.
