Abstract

A method of repairing an inner vessel wall includes the step of inserting at least a portion of a microwave ablation device into a vessel. The microwave ablation device includes an inner conductor disposed within an outer conductor and defines a longitudinal axis. The method also includes the steps of inserting a repairing sealant into the vessel such that the repairing sealant is disposed between an inner vessel wall and the outer conductor and expanding at least a portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis to force at least a portion of the repairing sealant into the inner vessel wall. The method also includes the step of delivering energy to at least one of the inner conductor and the outer conductor to activate the repairing sealant to repair the inner vessel wall.

Claims (14)

1. A method of treating tissue, comprising:

positioning a microwave ablation device adjacent to tissue, the microwave ablation device including an inner conductor disposed within an outer conductor and defining a longitudinal axis;

disposing a repairing sealant between the tissue and the outer conductor;

radially expanding a portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis to separate the portion of the outer conductor into a plurality of separate, circumferentially spaced conductors and force the repairing sealant to engage the tissue; and

delivering energy to at least one of the inner conductor or the outer conductor to cure the repairing sealant and treat the tissue with the cured repairing sealant.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the tissue is an inner vessel wall, and delivering energy to the at least one of the inner conductor or the outer conductor repairs the inner vessel wall.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein radially expanding the portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis pierces the tissue.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the inner conductor has a dielectric material disposed thereon.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein delivering energy to the at least one of the inner conductor or the outer conductor forms an electromagnetic field at the tissue.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein expanding the portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis includes moving the outer conductor relative to the inner conductor in a distal direction.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein expanding the portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis includes moving the inner conductor relative to the outer conductor in a proximal direction.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein radially expanding the portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis expands the repairing sealant radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the repairing sealant includes a mesh matrix that is moved from a non-expanded configuration to an expanded configuration in response to the radial expansion of the portion of the outer conductor relative to the longitudinal axis.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein radially expanding the portion of the outer conductor includes moving the plurality of separate, circumferentially spaced conductors radially outward from a dielectric material disposed on the inner conductor.
