Abstract

A system for managing prescriptions. The system includes a server to operate a prescription manager, and a client. The server includes a processing device and a memory. The prescription manager includes an attachment receiver to receive an audio recording from a prescription signatory authority. The audio recording indicates approval of a prescription for a patient. The client interacts with the prescription manager and is in communication with the server via a network. The client includes a microphone to convert the prescription signatory authority's voice to an electronic signal to generate the audio recording.

Claims (38)

1 . A system for managing prescriptions, the system comprising:

a server to operate a prescription manager;

wherein the server comprises:

a processing device; and

a memory;

wherein the prescription manager comprises:

an attachment receiver to receive an audio recording from a prescription signatory authority, the audio recording indicating approval of a prescription for a patient; and

a client to interact with the prescription manager, the client in communication with the server via a network, wherein the client includes a microphone to convert the prescription signatory authority's voice to an electronic signal to generate the audio recording.

2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a data source, wherein:

the prescription manager stores the audio file in the data source;

the prescription manager associates the audio file with the prescription; and

the prescription manager provides an interface to retrieve the audio file from the data source.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the prescription manager further comprises a training manager to receive a prescription request from a trainee and to receive an approval input from a trainer prior to advancing the prescription request.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the training manager provides a notification to the trainer in response to receiving a prescription request from a trainee.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the prescription manager further comprises a drug regimen review manager configured to generate a drug regimen review in response to receiving a request for a drug regimen review.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the drug regimen review manager generates a warning in response determining that an adverse drug interaction exists between two or more medications prescribed to a patient.

7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the drug regimen review manager generates a warning in response to determining that a duplicate therapy exists between two or more medications prescribed to a patient.

8 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the drug regimen review manager generates a recommendation in response to determining that an alternative medication may be prescribed to a patient.

9 . A method of delivering medications, the method comprising:

receiving information relating to one or more medications prepared for delivery to one or more locations;

generating one or more routes for delivery of medications, each route comprising one or more delivery locations;

tracking delivery status for the medications in the one or more routes by receiving data from an electronic device associated with the delivery; and

reporting the delivery status.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the data from the electronic device includes location data derived from a satellite navigation receiver associated with the electronic device.

11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the data from the electronic device includes an image captured by the electronic device at the delivery of medications to a delivery location.

12 . The method of claim 11 wherein the image is a signature from a receiving party captured by a digitizer associated with the electronic device.

13 . The method of claim 11 wherein the image is a photograph of a delivery slip captured by a camera associated with the electronic device.

14 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising notifying a medical professional associated with a patient in response to the status of a medication prescribed to the patient being changed to delivered.

15 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform a method comprising:

receiving information relating to one or more medications prepared for delivery to one or more locations;

generating one or more routes for delivery of medications, each route comprising one or more delivery locations;

tracking delivery status for the medications in the one or more routes by receiving data from an electronic device associated with the delivery;

receiving an image captured by a portable electronic device, the image associated with delivery of medications to a delivery location; and

reporting a delivery status.

16 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises storing the image in a database and associating the image with a prescription.

17 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises receiving location information from the portable electronic device.

18 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises recording the received location information in response to receiving an indication that a delivery has been completed.

19 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises sending an alert to a coordinator in response to the portable electronic device reporting location information outside a predetermined area.
