Abstract

A fluid pump kit is provided. The kit includes a magnetic driven member for coupling with and rotating a propeller, and a magnetic driver for magnetically coupling to and driving the magnetic driven member by a magnetic attraction force establishable between the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member. A motor of the kit operates the magnetic driver. First and second casings are provided for housing the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member, respectively. The first and second casings with housed magnetic driver and magnetic driven member, respectively, are detachably securable to opposite sides of a non-magnetic spacer solely by the magnetic attraction force establishable between the magnetic driver and the magnetic driven member sufficient to support the second casing and the housed magnetic driven member in a particular position without the use of mechanical aids.

Claims (32)

1. A fluid pump kit, comprising:

a driven device comprising a rotatable member, a magnetic driven member operatively connectable to the rotatable member for rotation of the rotatable member, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic driven member; and

a drive device comprising a source of rotary motion, a magnetic driver coupled to the source of rotary motion, and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driver,

the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver being sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid with respect to the driven device and the drive device, the driven device and the drive device on opposite sides of a non-magnetic wall while drivingly coupling the magnetic driver to the magnetic driven member.

2. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the rotatable member comprises a propeller.

3. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the source of rotary motion comprises an electric drive motor.

4. The fluid pump kit of claim 3 , wherein the drive device further comprises a steel cover attached to a side of the magnetic drive to shield the electric drive motor from magnetic flux.

5. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the second casing is configured to house both the magnetic driver and the source of rotary motion.

6. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the driven device further comprises a driven shaft configured to connect the rotatable member to the magnetic driven member, wherein the drive device further comprises a drive shaft configured to connect the source of rotary motion to the magnetic driver, the driven shaft and the drive shaft having respective axes that coaxially align with one another when the driven device and the drive device are detachably secured to opposite sides of the non-magnetic wall solely by magnetic attraction forces of the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver.

7. The fluid pump kit of claim 1 , wherein the driven device further comprises a protection screen attached to the first casing around the rotatable member.

8. A fluid pump kit, comprising:

a driven device comprising a rotatable member, a magnetic driven member operatively connectable to the rotatable member for rotation of the rotatable member, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic driven member;

a drive device comprising a source of rotary motion, a magnetic driver coupled to the source of rotary motion, and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driver; and

a non-magnetic spacer separating the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver,

the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver being sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid with respect to the driven device and the drive device, the driven device and the drive device on opposite sides of the non-magnetic spacer while drivingly coupling the magnetic driver to the magnetic driven member.

9. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the rotatable member comprises a propeller.

10. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the source of rotary motion comprises an electric drive motor.

11. The fluid pump kit of claim 10 , wherein the drive device further comprises a steel cover attached to a side of the magnetic drive to shield the electric drive motor from magnetic flux.

12. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the second casing is configured to house both the magnetic driver and the source of rotary motion.

13. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the driven device further comprises a driven shaft configured to connect the rotatable member to the magnetic driven member, wherein the drive device further comprises a drive shaft configured to connect the source of rotary motion to the magnetic driver, the driven shaft and the drive shaft having respective axes that coaxially align with one another when the driven device and the drive device are detachably secured to opposite sides of the non-magnetic spacer solely by magnetic attraction forces of the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver.

14. The fluid pump kit of claim 8 , wherein the driven device further comprises a protection screen attached to the first casing around the rotatable member.

15. A combination comprising:

an aquarium comprising a wall; and

a fluid pump kit, comprising

a driven device comprising a rotatable member, a magnetic driven member operatively connectable to the rotatable member for rotation of the rotatable member, and a first casing configured to house the magnetic driven member; and

a drive device comprising a source of rotary motion, a magnetic driver coupled to the source of rotary motion, and a second casing configured to house the magnetic driver,

the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver being sufficiently magnetically attracted to one another to self-supportingly secure, against gravity and without requiring assistance of mechanical aid with respect to the driven device and the drive device, the driven device and the drive device on opposite sides of the wall of the aquarium while drivingly coupling the magnetic driver to the magnetic driven member.

16. The combination of claim 15 , wherein the rotatable member comprises a propeller.

17. The combination of claim 15 , wherein the source of rotary motion comprises an electric drive motor.

18. The combination of claim 15 , wherein the second casing is configured to house both the magnetic driver and the source of rotary motion.

19. The combination of claim 15 , wherein the driven device further comprises a driven shaft configured to connect the rotatable member to the magnetic driven member, wherein the drive device further comprises a drive shaft configured to connect the source of rotary motion to the magnetic driver, the driven shaft and the drive shaft having respective axes that coaxially align with one another when the driven device and the drive device are detachably secured to opposite sides of the wall of the aquarium solely by magnetic attraction forces of the magnetic driven member and the magnetic driver.
