Abstract

A system for contextualizing a digital flyer is disclosed. The system includes a polygon mapping module for incorporating contextual information in the digital flyer using polygon mapping information, the polygon mapping information comprising a polygon for defining a polygonal area on a source flyer image of the digital flyer, the polygon being tagged with the contextual information, and a flyer data store for storing the tagged polygon. There is also disclosed for displaying the contextualized digital flyer and generating feedback using the contextualized digital flyer.

Claims (22)

1. A system for contextualizing a digital flyer, comprising:

a processing unit for executing instructions; and

a memory unit storing instructions, which when executed configure the system to provide:

a polygon mapping module, configured for generating tagged contextual information for the digital flyer:

receiving source flyer image data of the digital flyer;

defining two or more polygonal areas having a spatial position and inclusion relationship on the source flyer image data, wherein at least one of the two or more polygonal areas is a top-level polygonal area that is not wholly contained within another polygonal area and at least one of the two or more polygonal areas is wholly contained within the top-level polygonal area; and

tagging each of the two or more polygonal areas with respective contextual information providing descriptors of a portion of the digital flyer associated with the respective polygonal area, wherein the tagged contextual information of the polygonal areas and the spatial position and inclusion relationship of the polygonal areas provides a hierarchical relationship of the descriptors of the digital flyer; and

a flyer data store for storing the tagged two or more polygon areas in association with the source flyer image data of the digital flyer.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the source flyer image data represents one or more pages of the digital flyer.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the source flyer image data is a non-tiled image representing the digital flyer.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the source flyer image data is a tile set representing the digital flyer.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the two or more polygonal areas are defined by a user.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the user is associated with a publisher or a vendor of the digital flyer or is a viewer of the digital flyer.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the two or more polygonal areas are defined based on predetermined information.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the predetermined information is received from a vendor of the digital flyer.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the predetermined information received from the vendor is in an agreed upon format.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the predetermined information is based on feedback information.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the polygon mapping module is further configured for:

defining one or more points of interest on the source flyer image; and

storing the one or more points of interest in association with the digital flyer.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the top-level polygonal area demarcates a section of the digital flyer having a particular contextual relationship.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the two or more polygonal areas overlay categories, sections and items of the digital flyer and wherein the descriptors of the respective tagged polygonal areas describe the respective categories, sections and items.
