Abstract

For a consumer having a bank checking account but who is without a preprinted paper check, a signed paper check is electronically constructed for the consumer on a transaction basis, by a computer system. The system captures GPS location from the consumer's phone and prints numerical GPS coordinates onto the check as part of electronically constructing the signed check. One usage context is a system used by creditors obtaining payment from debtors who are overdue on their accounts.

Claims (23)

1. A method, in contexts of debtors with overdue accounts and other contexts in which consumers who have a checking account want to make payments, of securing a check transaction, comprising:

when a webpage specific to a check is accessed via a smart phone, capturing a Global Positioning System (GPS) location of the smart phone, and after capturing the GPS location of the smart phone,

onto the check that is not blank as to signature, amount or payee, printing a data set in Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) toner ink onto the check, wherein the data set printed in MICR toner ink comprises the captured GPS location in a form of numerical GPS coordinates;

capturing, performed by a computer, an Internet Protocol (IP) address in usage when a webpage specific to the check is being accessed;

storing, as permanent records, an identity of the IP address from which the webpage specific to the check is accessed and a date and time of the webpage access from the IP address;

after the GPS coordinates have been printed onto the check, scanning the check, followed by processing the GPS location obtained from the scanning step into a street address, followed by displaying a map in which is marked (1) the street address from the scanning step and (2) a street address proffered by a payor-user.

2. A method, in contexts of debtors with overdue accounts and other contexts in which consumers who have a checking account want to make payments, of securing a check transaction, comprising,

into a system comprising at least one computer, receiving a street address proffered by the payor-user;

when a webpage specific to a check is being accessed via a smart phone, capturing a Global Positioning System (GPS) location of the smart phone;

onto a check that is not blank as to signature, amount or payee, after the check has been received into the system, printing, in Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) toner ink, the GPS location in a form of numerical GPS coordinates onto the check of the payor-user, wherein the step of printing the GPS location onto the check is performed by the system after the system has captured the GPS location from the smart phone;

capturing, performed by a computer, an Internet Protocol (IP) address in usage when a webpage specific to the check is being accessed;

storing, as permanent records, an identity of the IP address from which the webpage specific to the check is accessed and a date and time of the webpage access from the IP address;

after the GPS coordinates have been printed onto the check, scanning the check, followed by processing the GPS location obtained from the scanning step into a street address, followed by displaying a map in which is marked the street address from the scanning step and the street address proffered by the payor user.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the printing step comprises printing, in Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) toner ink, the GPS location onto the check.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein in the map-displaying step, the map comprises a marked distance between the two addresses.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the marked distance in the map-displaying step is shown as a line with mileage overlaid thereon.

6. The method of claim 2 , further comprising a step, performed by the system, of displaying a Map button and a zooming tool useable to zoom in on the mapped GPS coordinates.

7. A method, in contexts of debtors with overdue accounts and other contexts in which consumers who have a checking account want to make payments, of securing a check transaction, comprising:

when a webpage specific to a check is accessed via a smart phone, capturing a Global Positioning System (GPS) location of the smart phone, and after capturing the GPS location of the smart phone,

onto the check that is not blank as to signature, amount or payee, printing a data set onto the check, wherein the data set comprises the captured GPS location in a form of numerical GPS coordinates;

capturing, performed by a computer, an Internet Protocol (IP) address in usage when a webpage specific to the check is being accessed;

storing, as permanent records, an identity of the IP address from which the webpage specific to the check is accessed and a date and time of the webpage access from the IP address;

after the GPS coordinates have been printed onto the check, scanning the check, followed by processing the GPS location obtained from the scanning step into a street address, followed by displaying a map in which is marked (1) the street address from the scanning step and (2) a street address proffered by a payor-user.
