Abstract

Anti-angiogenic agents or polypeptides have an amino acid segment substantially similar to domain one of CD2. The polypeptide has a β-sheet formed by two segments. Methods of using such agents and polypeptide are also included.

Claims (13)

1. An anti-angiogenic polypeptide for reducing angiogenesis comprising an amino acid segment having a variation of domain one of cluster of differentiation 2 (CD2) protein from human or rat, wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence having more than 95% sequence identity to one selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 3-11.

2. The polypeptide as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety.

3. The polypeptide as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a glycan moiety.

4. The polypeptide as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 with mutations E8S, T9V, W10Q, G11M, A12K, D99N, I102V, Q103I, and E104I.

5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising the anti-angiogenic polypeptide of claim 1 .

6. The pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the composition is in a form for systemic administration.

7. The pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the composition is an injectable solution or suspension.

8. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a polypeptide comprising an amino acid segment having a variation of domain one of CD2 protein from human or rat, wherein the polypeptide comprises the amino acid sequence having more than 95% sequence identity to one selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 3-11.

9. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 8 , further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

10. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 8 , further comprising a second active agent.

11. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 8 , wherein the composition promotes wound healing.

12. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 8 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition treats cancer, and the cancer is associated with angiogenesis.

13. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 12 , wherein the cancer is breast carcinoma, lung carcinoma, colon carcinoma, prostate carcinoma, ovarian carcinoma, neuroblastoma, central nervous system tumor, glioblastoma multiforme or melanoma.
