Abstract

A method for managing the connectivity between two or more communication equipments comprises: 1) Creating a signal path. The signal path is a collection of geospatial features designed to carry a signal between a source and an end; 2) Entering the geospatial features in a record that can be edited and managed to represent the complete signal path; and 3) Referencing the signal to each geospatial feature and record on the signal path of the signal.

Claims (23)

1. A method for managing the connectivity between two or more telecom equipments, the method comprising:

creating a signal path, the signal path being a collection of geospatial features designed to carry a signal between a source and an end;

entering the geospatial features in a record that can be edited and managed to represent the complete signal path; and

referencing the signal to each geospatial feature and record on the signal path of the signal;

wherein the signal has a source portion and an end portion, the source portion of the signal and the end portion of the signal being defined in a signal table such that the geospatial features are identified distinctly between the source portion and the end portion.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising

Creating a map of the features of the record associated with the signal path.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the record is presented as an editable table.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the geospatial features comprise one or more structures, one or more equipment, one or more ports, one or more cables, and one or more fibers.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein each geospatial feature and record relating to the signal has a reference to a signal IPID attribute.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the record has a primary key that is the signal IPID attribute.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the signal path record includes data on individual fibers within a cable.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein when trouble shooting a signal path having at least one obstruction:

1) a light pulse can be sent into a signal path, the light pulse being reflected when encountering the at least one obstruction,

2) calculate the distance to the at least one obstruction, and

3) determine possible fault locations by using the calculated distance.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein signal paths having geospatial features can be analyzed from multiple locations and the geospatial features common to all signal paths are identified as possible fault locations.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the geospatial features of a signal path can be displayed as multiple standalone tables in a single screen shot.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein each signal is unique and defined by a single record in a signal table.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein building footprints and splice closures are included in the record.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein assembly, fiber equipment, splices, and attachments are equipments containing a collection of ports.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein

the geospatial features in the record includes data on individual fibers within a cable that can be edited and managed to represent the complete signal path.
