Abstract

The present invention relates to a cobalamin acquisition protein, compositions containing the cobalamin acquisition protein, and the use of such compositions.

Claims (10)

1. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a protein that binds Vitamin B 12 , said protein comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 90% identity with SEQ ID NO: 2, and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the protein binds Vitamin B 12 with an affinity less than 10 −5 M.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a liquid, solid, cream, or paste.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the protein binds Vitamin B 12 with an affinity from about 10 −5 M to about 10 −12 M.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition, when administered to a subject, is capable of reducing the growth and/or proliferation of a microorganism in or on the subject.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the protein comprises from about 0.1% (w/w) to about 90% (w/w) of the pharmaceutical composition.

7. The composition of claim 6 , wherein the protein comprises from about 0.5% (w/w) to about 30% (w/w) of the pharmaceutical composition.

8. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of the composition of claim 1 .

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is administered topically or orally to the subject.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is administered non-parenterally to the subject.
