Abstract

A camera system configured to provide access to a video stream of an owner's monitored site is provided. The camera system includes a camera and a processor. The processor is configured to receive an alarm indication that indicates that an alarm event has been detected, generate a pointer to provide temporary access to a video stream of the monitored site, transmit an event notification to one or more authorized sharers to provide access to the video stream of the monitored site, the event notification including the pointer, and revoke access from the one or more authorized sharers to the video stream of the monitored site when an end alarm event is detected.

Claims (50)

1. A camera system configured to provide access to a video stream of a monitored site of an owner, the camera system comprising a camera and a processor, communicatively coupled to the camera, the processor configured to:

receive from the owner an identification of one or more sharers authorized by the owner to receive event notifications of the monitored site and an order of priority for the one or more authorized sharers to receive the event notifications;

confirm the identification of the one or more authorized sharers, including storing the identification in a storage system;

receive an alarm indication that indicates that an alarm event has been detected;

responsive to receiving the alarm indication:

generate a pointer to provide temporary access to a live video stream of the monitored site;

transmit an event notification to the one or more authorized sharers in the order of priority, to provide to the one or more authorized sharers access to the live video stream of the monitored site, the event notification including the pointer; and

revoke access from the one or more authorized sharers to the live video stream of the monitored site when an end alarm event is detected, wherein the end alarm event includes receiving, by the camera system, an end event signal from a remote security system.

2. The camera system of claim 1 , further configured to: responsive to receiving the alarm indication, transmit predetermined amount of video captured by the camera prior to the alarm event to a storage system to be stored.

3. The camera system of claim 1 , wherein the event notification is transmitted via at least one of a text message, an email message, and instant message.

4. The camera system of claim 3 , wherein the pointer is an IP address that points to the video stream.

5. The camera system of claim 1 , wherein the end alarm event includes at least one of more of receiving the end event signal from the owner of the monitored site, a predetermined amount of time after the event notification is received by the one or more authorized sharers, and receiving from at least one of the one or more authorized sharers that the alarm event has been confirmed.

6. The camera system of claim 1 , further configured to:

determine a type of alarm event; and

when the alarm event is determined to be one of an intruder alarm, fire alarm, and carbon monoxide alarm, generate the pointer.

7. The camera system of claim 1 , further including a remote server, the remote server configured to:

receive the alarm event, and

cause the camera to capture a current video image and send the captured video image and a video image taken at the time the detected alarm event occurred to the remote server for distribution.

8. A system comprising:

a remote security system configured to detect an alarm event at a monitored site of an owner; and

a camera system configured to provide access to a video stream of the monitored site, the camera system comprising a camera and a processor, the camera system configured to:

receive from the owner an identification of one or more sharers authorized by the owner to receive event notifications of the monitored site and an order of priority for the one or more authorized sharers to receive the event notifications;

receive an alarm indication from the security system that the alarm event has been detected;

in response to receiving the alarm indication:

generate a pointer to provide temporary access to a live video stream of the monitored site;

transmit an event notification to the one or more authorized sharers in the order of priority, to provide to the one or more authorized sharers access to the live video stream of the monitored site, the event notification including the pointer; and

revoke access from the one or more authorized sharers to the live video stream of the monitored site when an end alarm event is detected, wherein the end alarm event includes receiving, by the camera system, an end event signal from the remote security system.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the camera system is further configured to confirm the identification of the one or more authorized sharers, including storing the identification in a storage system.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the event notification is transmitted via at least one of a text message, an email message, and instant message.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the pointer is a URL that points to the video stream.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the end alarm event includes at least one of more of receiving the end event signal from the owner of the monitored site, a predetermined amount of time after the event notification is received by the one or more authorized sharers, and receiving from at least one of the one or more authorized sharers that the alarm event has been confirmed.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the camera system is further configured to:

determine a type of alarm event; and

when the alarm event is determined to be one of an intruder alarm, fire alarm, and carbon monoxide alarm, generate the pointer.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the camera system further includes a remote server, the remote server configured to:

receive the alarm event, and

cause the camera to capture a current video image and send the captured video image and a video image taken at the time the detected alarm event occurred to the remote server for distribution.

15. A method performed by a camera system comprising a camera and a processor communicatively coupled to the camera, for providing access to a video stream of an owner's monitored site, the method comprising:

receiving from the owner an identification of one or more sharers authorized by the owner to receive event notifications of the monitored site and an order of priority for the one or more authorized sharers to receive the event notifications;

confirming the identification of the one or more authorized sharers, including storing the identification in a storage system;

receiving an alarm indication at the camera system that indicates that an alarm event has been detected at the monitored site;

in response to receiving the alarm indication:

generating, by the camera system, a pointer to provide temporary access to a live video stream of the monitored site;

transmitting, from the camera system, an event notification to one or more authorized sharers in the order of priority, to provide to the one or more authorized sharers access to the live video stream of the monitored site, the event notification including the pointer; and

revoking, by the camera system, access from the one or more authorized sharers to the live video stream of the monitored site when an end alarm event is detected, wherein the end alarm event includes receiving, by the camera system, an end event signal from a remote security system.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining a type of alarm event; and

generating the pointer when the alarm event is determined to be one of an intruder alarm, fire alarm, and carbon monoxide alarm.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the end alarm event includes at least one of more of receiving the end event signal from the owner of the monitored site, a predetermined amount of time after the event notification is received by the one or more authorized sharers, and receiving from at least one of the one or more authorized sharers that the alarm event has been confirmed.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the event notification is transmitted via at least one of a text message, an email message, and instant message.
