Abstract

An ear cleaning device is provided for removing debris from an ear. In one form, the ear cleaning device includes a shaft, a head connected to the shaft, and a contiguous pocket structure of the head. The contiguous pocket structure includes a plurality of pockets that may be configured to receive debris. In another form, the ear cleaning device has a handle, a bulbous cleaner connected to the handle, and a solid inner core of the bulbous cleaner. The bulbous cleaner has two or more spaced, longitudinal walls disposed outward of the inner core that are configured to remove debris with turning of the ear cleaning device about a longitudinal axis of the device.

Claims (67)

1. An elongate ear cleaning device having a longitudinal axis, the device comprising:

an elongated handle having a length along the longitudinal axis;

a unitary, one-piece head sized to fit in a human ear, the head having a trailing end portion connected to the handle and a leading end portion opposite the trailing end portion, the trailing end portion having a first circumference therearound and the leading end portion having a second circumference therearound, the head including an intermediate portion axially between the trailing end portion and the leading end portion, the intermediate portion of the head having a third circumference therearound that is larger than the first circumference and the second circumference, the head being elongated along the longitudinal axis and made of a plastic material, the longitudinal axis extending through the handle and the head;

an inner core of the head having a narrow portion at the trailing end portion and a laterally enlarged portion intermediate the trailing end portion and the leading end portion;

a pocket of the head including two spaced, longitudinal walls extending parallel to each other along the longitudinal axis and outward of the inner core, the parallel longitudinal walls configured to remove debris with turning of the ear cleaning device about the longitudinal axis thereof;

the parallel longitudinal walls each having a side surface spaced from and facing the side surface of another of the parallel longitudinal walls; and

the pocket extending from the trailing end portion to the leading end portion of the head.

2. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the longitudinal walls extend from the trailing end portion to the leading end portion of the head.

3. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the head includes a contiguous pocket structure that includes the pocket.

4. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the longitudinal walls have curved scraping edges extending along the longitudinal axis.

5. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the inner core includes a support shaft and the longitudinal walls extend along the support shaft.

6. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the handle includes a pair of opposite ends with the trailing end portion of the head being connected to one of the ends of the handle; and

an ear-cleaning utensil at the other end of the handle.

7. The ear cleaning device of claim 6 wherein the ear-cleaning utensil has at least one recess for receiving debris.

8. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the handle and head have a unitary, one-piece construction.

9. The ear cleaning device of claim 1 wherein the handle has first cross-section dimension; and

a neck connect the handle and the head, the neck having a second cross-section dimension that is smaller than the first cross-section dimension.

10. An ear cleaning device having a predetermined length, the ear cleaning device comprising:

a handle;

a unitary, one-piece elongated head connected to the handle and having a longitudinal axis and a length extending therealong, the head having a leading end portion with a first circumference therearound and a trailing end portion with a second circumference therearound, the head including an intermediate portion between the leading end portion and the trailing end portion along the length of the head, the intermediate portion having a third circumference therearound that is larger than the first circumference and the second circumference;

an inner core of the head including an inner support shaft;

a contiguous pocket structure of the head, the contiguous pocket structure including a plurality of pockets that open to the inner core and have internal volumes to receive debris, the pockets being configured so that the internal volumes of the pockets are not in communication with each other;

longitudinal walls of the pockets spaced apart from each other and extending along the length of the head from the leading end portion to the trailing end portion, the longitudinal walls being configured to remove debris with turning of the ear cleaning device about the length thereof;

the longitudinal walls including a first longitudinal wall and a second longitudinal wall, the first longitudinal wall having a pair of discrete outer edges spaced apart from each other on the first longitudinal wall, the outer edges extending along the length of the head;

a pair of longitudinally extending side surfaces of the first longitudinal wall on opposite lateral sides of the first longitudinal wall;

one of the outer edges of the first longitudinal wall being at one of the side surfaces of the first longitudinal wall and the other outer edge being at the other side surface of the first longitudinal wall; and

an outer surface of the first longitudinal wall extending between the outer edges and along the length of the head, the outer surface extending at an acute angle relative to one of the side surfaces;

a pair of longitudinally extending side surfaces of the second longitudinal wall on opposite lateral sides of the second longitudinal wall;

the pockets including a first pocket defined at least in part between one side surface of the first longitudinal wall and one side surface of the second longitudinal wall, the first pocket extending from the trailing end portion to the leading end portion; and

the first pocket including a step surface at the trailing end portion of the head, the step surface facing toward the leading end portion of the head and extending outward from the inner support shaft perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and extending between the one side surface of the first longitudinal wall and the one side surface of the second longitudinal wall so that the step surface forms an end of the first pocket.

11. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the pockets include openings between the walls that open to the internal volumes of the pockets.

12. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the longitudinal walls extend along the support shaft.

13. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the head has a bulbous shape and the edges of the first longitudinal wall are curved.

14. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the head has an outer surface and the contiguous pocket structure covers a majority of the outer surface of the head.

15. The ear cleaning device of claim 14 wherein the contiguous pocket structure covers substantially all of the outer surface of the head.

16. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the handle includes a pair of opposite ends with the head being connected to one of the ends of the handle; and

an ear-cleaning utensil at the other end of the handle.

17. The ear cleaning device of claim 16 wherein the ear-cleaning utensil has a bulbous shape and at least one recess for receiving debris.

18. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the head is made of an inedible material.

19. The ear cleaning device of claim 18 wherein the inedible material is plastic.

20. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the handle and head are integrally formed.

21. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the longitudinal walls are straight.

22. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the inner support shaft has a circular cross-section taken perpendicular to a central longitudinal axis of the inner support shaft.

23. The ear cleaning device of claim 10 wherein the handle has a first cross-section dimension; and

a neck connects the handle and the head, the neck having a second cross-section dimension that is smaller than the first cross-section dimension.

24. The ear cleaning device of claim 10

wherein the second longitudinal wall has a pair of discrete outer edges spaced apart from each other on the second longitudinal wall and extending along the length of the head.

25. An elongate ear cleaning device having a longitudinal axis, the ear cleaning device having a unitary, one-piece construction and being made of a plastic material, the ear cleaning device comprising:

a handle;

an elongated head connected to the handle and having a length;

an inner support shaft of the head;

a plurality of pockets of the head having internal volumes to receive debris, the pockets being configured so that the internal volumes of the pockets are not in communication with each other;

a plurality of longitudinal walls of the pockets extending along the length of the head, the plurality of longitudinal walls being configured to remove debris with turning of the ear cleaning device about the longitudinal axis thereof;

the plurality of longitudinal walls including a first longitudinal wall having a pair of discrete outer edges spaced apart from each other on the first longitudinal wall and extending along the longitudinal axis, at least one of the outer edges being a scraping edge of the first longitudinal wall; and

the pockets including at least one annular pocket defined at least in part by two of the longitudinal walls.

26. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the head includes a leading end portion and a trailing end portion and the longitudinal walls extend from the leading end portion to the trailing end portion.

27. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the head includes a leading end portion and a trailing end portion and the head is laterally enlarged intermediate the trailing end portion and the leading end portion.

28. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the head has a bulbous shape and the outer edges are curved.

29. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the head has an outer surface and the pockets cover a majority of the outer surface of the head.

30. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the head includes a pair of arms extending outward from the inner support shaft and the first longitudinal wall is connected to the inner support shaft by one of the arms.

31. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the handle includes a pair of opposite ends with the head being connected to one of the ends of the handle; and

an ear-cleaning utensil at the other end of the handle having a bulbous shape and at least one recess for receiving debris.

32. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the first longitudinal wall is straight.

33. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the inner support shaft has a substantially circular cross-section taken perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis.

34. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the longitudinal walls include a second longitudinal wall having a pair of discrete outer edges spaced from each other on the second longitudinal wall.

35. The ear cleaning device of claim 25 wherein the handle has a first cross-section dimension; and

a neck connects the handle and the head, the neck having a second cross-section dimension that is smaller than the first cross-section dimension.
