Abstract

An example pen housing includes a first regulator to actuate in response to a first pressure change to enable gas within a first chamber to flow from the first chamber to a second chamber, the first chamber to flow ink to a printhead, the second chamber not to receive ink directly from an ink supply; and a second regulator to actuate in response to a second pressure change to enable the gas received from the first chamber to be discharged from the second chamber.

Claims (28)

1. A pen housing to provide ink to a printer, the pen housing, comprising:

a first chamber including a first aperture and a second aperture, the first aperture to be coupled to an ink supply;

a second chamber fluidly coupled to the first chamber at the second aperture, the second aperture to flow ink from the first chamber to the second chamber, the second chamber to flow ink to a printhead of the printer;

a filter to cover the second aperture, the filter to deter contaminants from passing from the first chamber to the second chamber, the filter to deter gas from flowing from the second chamber to the first chamber; and

a third chamber including a first regulator and a second regulator, the first regulator to control fluid flow between the second chamber and the third chamber, the second regulator to control fluid flow between the third chamber and the first chamber, the first regulator to actuate to enable gas within the second chamber to flow from the second chamber to the third chamber, the second regulator to actuate to enable the gas received from the second chamber to flow from the third chamber to the first chamber.

2. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the first regulator is actuatable at a first pressure difference between the second chamber and the third chamber, the second regulator is actuatable at a second pressure difference between the third chamber and the first chamber.

3. The pen housing of claim 2 , wherein the second pressure difference is greater than the first pressure difference.

4. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the first regulator is actuatable in response to a pressure increase in the first chamber and the second chamber, the second regulator is actuatable in response to a pressure decrease in the first chamber.

5. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the pen housing is integral to the printer.

6. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the first aperture is sized to deter air from entering the first chamber through the first aperture when the ink supply is not coupled to the pen housing.

7. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the third chamber includes a flexible membrane to enable a volume of the third chamber to change in response to the gas received from the second chamber.

8. The pen housing of claim 1 , further including a sensor within the first chamber to detect an ink level within the first chamber.

9. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the first regulator includes a check ball valve, the second regulator includes an umbrella valve.

10. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the filter is angled to encourage the gas to accumulate adjacent the first regulator.

11. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein a valve seat of the first regulator includes ribs to reduce a size of an air bubble to pass from the second chamber to the third chamber and to deter the air bubble from becoming lodged at the valve seat.

12. The pen housing of claim 1 , wherein the first regulator is a first regulator type and the second regulator is a second regulator type.

13. The pen housing of claim 1 , further including a nozzle extending from the fire aperture, the nozzle to be received by the ink supply.

14. The pen housing of claim 13 , wherein the nozzle includes a third aperture in communication with the first aperture, the first aperture being smaller than the third aperture to encourage a meniscus of ink to form over the first aperture when the ink supply is not coupled to the pen housing to deter air from entering the first chamber through the first aperture.

15. A method, comprising

increasing a pressure within a first chamber to urge ink through a filter that separates the first chamber and a second chamber, the increasing of the pressure to actuate a first regulator that fluidly couples the second chamber and a third chamber to enable gas within the second chamber to flow to the third chamber; and

decreasing the pressure within the first chamber to actuate a second regulator that fluidly couples the third chamber and the first chamber to enable the gas to flow from the third chamber to the first chamber.

16. A pen housing, comprising:

a first regulator to actuate in response to a first pressure change to enable gas within a first chamber to flow from the first chamber to a second chamber, the first chamber to flow ink to a printhead, the second chamber to receive ink indirectly from an ink supply; and

a second regulator to actuate in response to a second pressure change to enable the gas received from the first chamber to be discharged from the second chamber, the first pressure change being less than the second pressure change.

17. The pen housing of claim 16 , further including a filter to separate the first chamber into a first sub-chamber and a second sub-chamber, the gas to be within the second sub-chamber prior to the actuation of the first regulator.

18. The pen housing of claim 17 , wherein the filter is to deter contaminants from passing from the first sub-chamber to the second sub-chamber, the filter to deter gas from flowing from the second sub-chamber to the first sub-chamber.

19. The pen housing of claim 16 , wherein the first regulator includes a check ball valve, the second regulator includes an umbrella valve.

20. The pen housing of claim 16 , wherein the second regulator prevents back flow from the second chamber to the first chamber.
