Cleansing compositions
A personal care composition comprising a cosmetically acceptable base and inorganic particulate material, for example, a shower gel or hair shampoo, and a method of making the personal care composition. A cleaning composition comprising a base and inorganic particulate material, for example, a hard surface cleansing composition, and a method of making the cleaning composition. A composition, for example, a personal care composition, use of an inorganic particulate material having a d 50 of from about 0.1 μm to about 200 μm in such a composition, and a method for making such a composition.
1. A cleaning composition comprising:
a base; and
perlite,
wherein the base comprises a detergent,
wherein the base is in the form of a liquid, emulsion, or gel, and
wherein the perlite is a spherical perlite comprising at least 50%
microspheres that are substantially closed and hollow.
2. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has not been milled.
3. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein at least 80 wt. % of the perlite is microspheres.
4. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a d 90 of no greater than about 500 μm.
5. The cleaning composition according to claim 4 , wherein the perlite has a d 10 of at least about 10 μm and a d 90 of no greater than about 500 μm.
6. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a density of: (i) from about 0.10 to about 4.0 g/cc, or (ii) from about 0.10 to about 2.0 g/cc, or (iii) from about 1.50 to about 2.50 g/cc, or (iv) from about 0.20 to about 0.70 g/cc.
7. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a brightness of from about 65% to about 75%.
8. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a bulk density of from about 150-500 g/l.
9. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a d 10 of at least about 10 μm, a d 90 of no greater than about 450 μm, and a density of from about 0.20 to about 0.70 g/cc or from about 1.50 to about 2.50 g/cc, and
wherein the perlite has a d 50 of from about 180 μm to about 280 μm.
10. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite has a d 50 of from about 30 μm to about 80 μm.
11. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the perlite is present in an amount of from about 0.5 wt. % to about 5 wt. %.
12. The cleaning composition according to claim 1 , wherein the cleansing composition is a hard surface cleansing composition or tableware cleansing composition.
13. A packaged product suitable for commerce comprising the cleaning composition according to claim 1 .
14. A method comprising using the cleaning composition of claim 1 to clean a hard surface, wherein the base is a gel.
15. The method according to claim 12 , wherein the perlite provides a scrubbing action.
16. A method for making a cleaning composition, said method comprising combining a base and a perlite,
wherein the base comprises a detergent,
wherein the base is in the form of an emulsion or gel, and
wherein the perlite is a spherical perlite comprising at least 50% microspheres that are substantially closed and hollow.
17. The method according to claim 16 , wherein the step of combining includes shear mixing.
18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the base is a gel and the gel is an emulsion of surfactant and water.
19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the gel is prepared before being combined with the inorganic particulate material and any other additive components.
20. The cleaning composition of claim 1 , further comprising a suspension agent.
21. The method of claim 16 , further comprising combining a suspension agent with the base and the perlite.
