Abstract

The vibration capsule has a movement generation unit, a movement control unit, a wireless communication unit and a power supply. The movement control unit provides instructions to the movement generation unit, which generates movements in configurable frequencies and duty cycles. The power supply unit provides power to the movement generation unit through movement control unit, which also decides work period and rest period for the capsule device. The vibration capsule device further includes a capsule movement detection unit, which includes at least one sensor unit and provides information to the wireless communication unit.

Claims (26)

1. A method to use a vibration capsule device, comprising

starting a capsule movement unit configured to produce vibration at a vibration level comprising a first frequency and a first duty cycle;

detecting a first acceleration through a first acceleration sensor;

collecting at least three accelerations through the first acceleration sensor and forming a first group of data;

identifying a second acceleration among the first group of data and recording the second acceleration as a first selected frequency;

adjusting the duty cycle until a patient is comfortable with the vibration level;

repeating the detecting and adjusting step for every 0.5-1 hour and stop the vibration when an accumulated vibration time is more than 3 hours.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second acceleration is a maximum value of the at least three accelerations for the first group.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second acceleration is a median value of the at least three accelerations for the first group.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second acceleration is an average value of the at least three accelerations for the first group.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising

turning on the vibration capsule device through a capsule ON/OFF module.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising

testing the vibration capsule device by running the vibration capsule device at a test frequency, a test duty cycle for a pre-determined test period.

7. The method of claim 5 , further comprising

turning on the vibration capsule device through a set delay period after the vibration capsule device is introduced to the patient's gastrointestinal tract.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising

receiving a default portfolio of vibration parameters by the vibration capsule device wirelessly.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising

changing a vibration direction of the vibration capsule device by a changing electrical current from a power supply to a vibration motor.

10. A method to use a vibration capsule device, comprising introducing the vibration capsule device to a patient's gastrointestinal (GI) tract;

moving a vibration capsule device at a resonant frequency of the patient's gastrointestinal motility, comprising

a) starting a capsule movement unit at a first frequency f and a first duty cycle and detecting a first acceleration A f through a first acceleration sensor;

b) vibrating the capsule movement unit at a second frequency f-m and at the first duty cycle, and detecting a second acceleration A f-m through the first acceleration sensor; and

c) repeating steps b and a in a range from 1 Hertz (Hz) to 13 Hz and finding a maximum A f-n and identifying f-n as the resonant frequency of the GI tract of the patient;

wherein 1 Hz<f-m<13 Hz, 1 Hz<f-n<13 Hz and 0.2<|m|<1.
