Abstract

A method and apparatus for deriving indoor/outdoor classification information for call data for a wireless communication network. The method comprises identifying a set of subscriber call data records relating to vehicular calls, deriving a physical channel measurement threshold value based at least partly on physical channel measurement values for the subscriber call data records identified as relating to vehicular calls, and classifying subscriber call data records for the wireless communication network as indoor subscriber call data records and outdoor subscriber call data records based at least partly on a comparison of physical channel measurement values for the subscriber call data records with the derived physical channel measurement threshold value.

Claims (89)

1. A device comprising:

one or more processors to:

identify a subscriber call data record;

determine location information associated with the subscriber call data record,

the location information indicating a geolocation of a call event associated with the subscriber call data record; and

selectively classify the subscriber call data record as an indoor subscriber call data record or an outdoor subscriber call data record based on the location information,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the outdoor subscriber call data record when:

an area of uncertainty associated with the geolocation does not overlap an indoor location,

the subscriber call data record relates to a vehicular call, or

a physical channel measurement value, associated with the subscriber call data record, is available and exceeds a physical channel measurement threshold value, and

the subscriber call data record being classified as the indoor subscriber call data record when:

the area of uncertainty associated with the geolocation does overlap an indoor location, and

the physical channel measurement value is available and does not exceed the physical channel measurement threshold value.

2. The device of claim 1 , where the one or more processors are further to:

identify a set of subscriber call data records relating to vehicular calls; and

derive the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a respective physical channel measurement value associated with each subscriber call data record of the set of subscriber call data records.

3. The device of claim 1 , where the one or more processors are further to:

determine a distance traveled by a device associated with the subscriber call data record,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the outdoor subscriber call data record based on the distance traveled.

4. The device of claim 1 , where the one or more processors are further to:

determine a velocity of a device associated with the subscriber call data record,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the vehicular call when the velocity exceeds a velocity threshold value.

5. The device of claim 1 , where, when the physical channel measurement value is not available, the subscriber call data record is classified as an unknown indoor/outdoor call data record.

6. The device of claim 1 , where the one or more processors are further to:

determine that a particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are available; and

derive, based on determining that the particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are available, the physical channel measurement threshold value based on respective mean and standard deviation values for each physical channel measurement value of the physical channel measurement values.

7. The device of claim 1 , where the one or more processors are further to:

determine that a particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are not available; and

derive, based on determining that the particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are not available, the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a theoretical physical channel measurement value.

8. A method, comprising:

identifying, by a device, a subscriber call data record;

determining, by the device, location information associated with the subscriber call data record,

the location information indicating a geolocation of a call event associated with the subscriber call data record; and

selectively classifying, by the device, the subscriber call data record as an indoor subscriber call data record or an outdoor subscriber call data record based on the location information,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the outdoor subscriber call data record when:

an area of uncertainty associated with the geolocation does not overlap an indoor location,

the subscriber call data record relates to a vehicular call, or

a physical channel measurement value, associated with the subscriber call data record, is available and exceeds a physical channel measurement threshold value, and

the subscriber call data record being classified as the indoor subscriber call data record when:

the area of uncertainty associated with the geolocation does overlap an indoor location, and

the physical channel measurement value is available and does not exceed the physical channel measurement threshold value.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying a set of subscriber call data records relating to vehicular calls; and

deriving the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a respective physical channel measurement value associated with each subscriber call data record of the set of subscriber call data records.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining that a particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are not available; and

deriving, based on determining that the particular quantity of physical channel measurement values are not available, the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a theoretical physical channel measurement value.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining a travel time window of a call event associated with the subscriber call data record; and

determining that the subscriber call data record relates to the vehicular call based on the travel time window and the location information.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining an area of uncertainty based on the location information,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the outdoor subscriber call data record based on the area of uncertainty.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining a velocity of a device associated with the subscriber call data record,

the subscriber call data record being classified as the vehicular call when the velocity exceeds a velocity threshold value.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying an area bin associated with a location relating to the subscriber call data record; and

determining the physical channel measurement threshold value based on the area bin.

15. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a device, a subscriber call data record;

identifying, by the device, information associated with the subscriber call data record,

the information indicating a geolocation of a call event associated with the subscriber call data record,

the information including a physical channel measurement value, and

the subscriber call data record not relating to a vehicular call;

determining, by the device, that the geolocation is not associated with an unambiguous outdoor location;

comparing, by the device and based on the subscriber call data record not relating to the vehicular call and the geolocation not being associated with the unambiguous outdoor location, the physical channel measurement value to a physical channel measurement threshold value,

the physical channel measurement threshold value being associated with a set of subscriber call data records relating to vehicular calls; and

selectively classifying, by the device, the subscriber call data record as an indoor subscriber call data record or an outdoor subscriber call data record based on comparing the physical channel measurement value to the physical channel measurement threshold value.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining that the physical channel measurement value exceeds the physical channel measurement threshold value,

where selectively classifying the subscriber call data record comprises:

classifying the subscriber call data record as the outdoor subscriber call data record based on the physical channel measurement value exceeding the physical channel measurement threshold value.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

determining a travel time window of a device associated with the subscriber call data record;

determining a distance traveled by the device based on the travel time window and the information; and

determining that the subscriber call data record does not relate to the vehicular call based on the distance traveled.

18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

identifying the set of subscriber call data records relating to vehicular calls; and

deriving the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a respective physical channel measurement value associated with each subscriber call data record of the set of subscriber call data records.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

identifying an area bin associated with a location of a call event associated with the subscriber call data record;

identifying the set of subscriber call data records based on the area bin; and

deriving the physical channel measurement threshold value based on a respective physical channel measurement value associated with each subscriber call data record of the set of subscriber call data records.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

identifying the set of subscriber call data records;

determining a mean value and a standard deviation value based on a respective physical channel measurement value associated with each subscriber call data record of the set of subscriber call data records;

determining an outdoor physical channel measurement value based on the mean value and the standard deviation value; and

determining the physical channel measurement threshold value based on the outdoor physical channel measurement value and a theoretical physical channel measurement value.
