Abstract

Systems and methods including mobile devices determining their location using a location determination system, such as a global positioning system. A database stores the identifiers of cells representative of predefined regions in a hierarchical grid system. The location coordinates as function of time are converted to visitation patterns of the mobile devices to the predefined regions, based on converting the coordinates to cell identifiers and searching the database to find matches between the cell identifiers representing the regions and the cell identifiers representing the mobile device locations. For example, mobile devices having similar visitation patterns can be identified and divided into two groups; and information relevant to a region is transmitted to one of the group but not another. The visitation patterns of the two group after the transmission is identified and compared to measure a difference.

3. The computing device of claim 2 , wherein the converting of the coordinates of the location into the cell identifier is performed via:

generating two integers from longitude and latitude coordinates of the location according to a precision level; and

combining the two integers into the cell identifier without using a floating point number computation.

4. The computing device of claim 2 , wherein the first mobile device is associated with an event and the second mobile device is not associated with the event.

5. The computing device of claim 4 , further configured to:

identify the second mobile device based on similarity, between the first mobile device and the second mobile device, in visitation pattern to the geographical region prior to the event.

7. The computing device of claim 5 , wherein the difference is identified as a measurement of influence of the event.

8. The computing device of claim 7 , wherein the event includes transmitting of information relevant to the geographical region to the first mobile device; and wherein the information is not transmitted to the second mobile device.

9. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a computing device from a plurality of mobile devices, location data indicating coordinates of locations of the mobile devices as a function of time;

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

storing, in the computing device, a set of cell identifiers for the geographical regions, each of the cell identifiers identifying a cell that is determined to be within a region defined by one of the predefined geographical boundaries and stored in association with the region;

wherein the converting of the coordinates includes, for each location identified by a set of coordinates:

converting the set of coordinates to a cell identifier; and

searching the set of cell identifiers to determine an identifier of a region stored in association with the cell identifier.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the converting of the set of coordinates into the cell identifier includes:

generating two integers from longitude and latitude coordinates of the location according to a precision level; and

combining the two integers into the cell identifier without using a floating point number computation.
