Abstract

The present invention relates to cell culture media containing combinations of proteins, as well as methods of making the cell culture media, and methods of using the cell culture media to improve growth characteristics of cultured cells.

Claims (17)

1. A cell culture media supplement or complete media composition for improving the growth of a cell in cell culture comprising:

a recombinant mammalian albumin wherein said albumin is:

i) produced in a transgenic plant;

ii) has less than 1 EU of endotoxin/mg of albumin; and

iii) less than 2% aggregated albumin.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said recombinant albumin comprises at least 0.01% wt/wt of a heat shock protein.

3. The composition of claim 2 , wherein said heat shock protein is a rice heat shock protein.

4. The composition of claim 2 , wherein said heat shock protein is selected from said group consisting of Rice HSP70 genes, and rice endosperm lumenal binding protein.

5. The composition of claim 2 , wherein said heat shock protein is selected from the group consisting of Rice (gb|ACJ54890.1|), EEC69073/OsI_37938, and AAB63469.

6. The composition of claim 2 , wherein said supplement comprises at least 0.04% wt/wt HSP70.

7. The composition of claim 2 , further comprising a recombinant transferrin related protein, wherein said transferrin related protein is lactoferrin.

8. The composition of claim 2 , further comprising a recombinant transferrin related protein, wherein said transferrin related protein is transferrin.

9. The composition of claim 8 , wherein said ratio of said transferrin to said recombinant albumin is 1:50 to 1:5000.

10. The composition of claim 9 , wherein said ratio of said lactoferrin to said recombinant albumin is 1:3 to 1:0.33.

11. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said albumin is recombinant human serum albumin.

12. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said transgenic plant is a transgenic grain.

13. The composition of claim 12 , wherein the transgenic grain is transgenic rice.
